These cabins are tucked back into the hills, very private and surrounded by nature. We only stayed one day but we really enjoyed the view and sounds of the running creek nearby.
Beautiful setting in the canyon with the creek and a quaint little cabin that fit our needs well. Lots of trails to explore and animals to see.

Exactly what we were looking for!!
Such a perfectly secluded spot. You'd never guess that you're off the grid, with all the amenities provided. We absolutely loved it and are definitely planning on coming back. Thanks so much for sharing your special spot with us.
We were just passing thru for one night and wanted a cool place to stay to make smores and look at stars. This place was absolutely amazing, we did not want to leave! It had everything we needed. We felt safe. It was spotless clean, we were expecting spiders and mosquitoes and there were zero! We were so highly impressed that we want to come every year and bring the family!!! Thank you for an amazing memory.
Awesome property with lots of game. Remote but relatively easy to get into. Cabin and parking in the back of the canyon was a rare treat. Beautiful night sky. Good amenities for a rustic experience. Perfect hunting spot not too far from gas a groceries. Jon is great and very attentive. Saw moose, deer. turkey and grouse.
We loved staying at these cabins. We hadca large group and had no issues at all. Our kids, ages from 4 to 22 enjoyed exploring and were reluctant to leave.
Jonathan was very responsive and helpful. We will most likely stay again.
Everything was as described and checking in was a breeze. If you are looking for an escape from your busy life or a family spot to vacation this is an excellent one. My children loved playing in the near by creek and exploring the surrounding trails and wildlife. The electric single burner and grill make preparing meals a breeze for everyone. The front porch is great for enjoying your morning coffee. Do be prepared for a long dirt road to the cabin though! Overall an amazing and peaceful stay!
We all enjoyed our stay at the cabin- just wish the hot tub had been filled prior to our arrival. And my daughter suggests that you sharpen the ax. But I would definitely recommend to friends/family.
This is the 3rd or 4th time ive been to Blackhorse Canyon and i will be back again. Jonathan is an excellent host, kind, gracious and gemerous.
Everything is comfortableiand in great shape.
If you're coming as a hunter or hunting group, there's a plethora of animals. Elk, deer, turkey, bear, cats and more. They work hard to make it an attractive place for wildlife in the multiple food plots.
Thanks again Jonathan and see you again next time.

Weekend
It was to hot, the cabin doesn’t have ac or something like that only have a fan in the ceiling,
The hot water for bathing runs out very quickly,
and the light went out at 10:00 in the morning. 😞

Claudia, it's an off-grid cabin powered by solar and water so we don't offer all the amenities of a hotel stay. The binder states the hot water heater (which is a big luxury for off-grid) is a 5 gallon size and takes 30 minutes to recharge! If too much power is used at once the system will shut down which it did for your group, and had to be reset by us. The cabin offers a glamping-style experience back in the woods, and is not for those looking for a 4-star accommodation.
Absolutely wonderful spot, we came up just to get away from the usual responsibilities and really enjoyed the exclusiveness of the property and the quiet that came with it. We also used this trip as a vetting experience, to which our end result findings was that we're definitely coming back with our kids and extended family. There's definitely room for everyone, and the beds were actually extremely comfortable. For anybody wanting to come up though, check in with the property owner to make sure that there's propane for the barbecue already there. The tank was what seemed like almost empty, so we ended up not using it. No oven or stovetop which is perfectly fine considering it's a cabin and they have plenty of other things that you can cook with. They do have a two burner hot plate which worked awesome, and two fridges so that was great too. Make sure you check to see if there's a burn ban in Stevens County, because that's how you end up heating the hot tub (by making a fire in the stove externally)
My two friends and I have been taking our kids on an annual camping trip for over 10 years. This year we decided to try and find a place where we could get away from the crowds at the campgrounds, and also give the dads a break from dealing with all of the gear. We could not have chosen a better option than these cabins!
Everything is exactly as described. We were very comfortable at all times and you really feel like you are on another planet. It's quiet, peaceful, and beautiful.
This is a summer trip, so for our group the close proximity to Lake Roosevelt was key. We spent our days relaxing by the lake and our evenings at the cabins cooking, exploring, and playing games.
At night, we all slept wonderfully after hours of stargazing.
The host was very accomodating and easy to communicate with the one time we thought we needed something (we didn't...it was there).
This was our second time staying here. We stayed for four days in December. It was really wonderful and exactly as we remembered! Very scenic and cozy and a great way to relax at the end of a hectic year. We mostly stayed at the cabin, sharing meals and talking and occasionally walking near the cabin. In a non-snowy time of year, we might have brought mini bikes, the property offers lots of opportunities for exploration. There is enough internet to check email or browse online but if you want to watch movies, bring DVDs or download them beforehand (we did the latter). I really appreciated that even with heavy snow during a couple of days, the roads were kept plowed and clear enough to drive in our 4WD truck (you will probably need AWD/4WD if you stay during lots of snow though :) ). One thing to note is the power went out a couple of times. One time might’ve been me (turned up a space heater) and one time was some sort of system glitch. It’s not a big deal (the wood stove provides the heat and the owner fixed it quickly both times) but if you have a real need for consistent power (such as maybe a medical device), be aware of this and bring a backup power source.
We had a blast here! Very accommodating. Johnathan was easy to contact and very friendly. We had a great time! We came with our 3 boys, 13, 6, 2 and they loved every single minute.
Amazing property with a lot to discover and enjoy! It was awesome having a parents cabin and a kids bunk house all right next to each other. The kids loved playing in the creek and hiking! The cabin and property were very quiet and we felt like we had the whole mountain to ourselves even though the owners are close and willing to help if we needed anything. The only complaint we had is the WiFi is spotty at best, we didn’t go for the WiFi so it wasn’t a huge issue for us but just something to note.

My wife, four kids and I live 40 min from the ranch in the small town of Clayton. We have enjoyed the ranch as a family retreat for years, and figured it was time to share a little with others!
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the area when we first moved to Spokane in 2004, and this ranch has all the myriad habitats and biomes that make Eastern Washington so unique and enjoyable.
What makes this property unique
The cabins are located at the fork of the N. Hunters and Moose creeks in the heart of our property, Black Horse Ranch. It's named for Black Horse Canyon that runs through the middle, and it provides incredible rock formations and views. You'll feel like your miles in the wilderness with all the comforts of home, but it's only a 15 min drive to Hunters where you can stock up and enjoy lake Roosevelt.
