“LARGE DOG” friendly, charming historic cottage with pool, and rock garden.
Only a half mile walk to the beach, and situated across from St. Stanislaus athletic fields. Lovely art galleries, gift stores, antique stores, restaurants and bars are plentiful. The large garden is fenced and safe for dogs. We have recently added a sizable rock garden in the adjoining lot. There is a saltwater pool with ample comfortable lounging, and seating surrounding it. The cottage is circa 1880's and was renovated in 2016 , it is approximately 1,100 sf. The bathroom is modern with a tub and shower. In 2018 we completed the addition of another bathroom, with stand up shower. Charming wrap around side porch (perfect for reading) and catching a breeze. Rooms are light and bright with high ceilings. Washer and dryer in home. The property has four majestic oaks, and many birds abound. The parking area is off street and is a very large gravelled space. The annex to the cottage is not available for rent, and will be unoccupied during your stay. The property has string lights which illuminate the space and add wonderful ambience.

Really sweet property. The owners were wonderful to communicate with. Tbe pool was nice and set up for dogs was perfect and accommodating for my 2 fur babies.
We loved the pool to cool off on humid summer days and the location was perfect to walk to some restaurants and attractions. Loved the live music at the depot one night and the dog-friendly yard and town!
This property is so nice and well kept. The dogs loved it! The yard is beautiful and pool is refreshing. You can walk to restaurants, shops and park. Beach and Old Town are nearby, great location. Would definitely recommend a visit to this property!
This is the second time I stayed at this property. I had a fabulous time. Love the house, yard and the town. Gillie (Westie) loved it too! The pool is perfect. I enjoyed just hanging out in the very private back yard that is huge. Bird watching and tossing the ball for Gillie kept me as busy as I wanted to be. Thanks
The cottage was everything that was stayed, our two Aussies loved chasing the squirrels and sunning on deck. The pool was great. Definitely would love to come back!
Loved the house. The additions to the old house flow and increase the space nicely. Updated amenities and decor were very nice. The backyard and pool fantastic. The side yard with the trees and gravel made for a quiet, cool relaxing setting. It was 97 degrees most days and we spent a lot of time in the pool.
We loved our stay at this house! We’ve been to Bay St. Louis many times, and this place is definitely one of our favs. The layout was great, full kitchen, living room space, two bathrooms, and wonderful sleeping areas. The backyard though is the very best feature! Absolutely fantastic landscaping, seating, and an exactly perfect size pool for the two of us. Loved this place so much. We had our two furry kids with us, as well, and they enjoyed sniffing around the backyard and hanging out.
The house is really great I have no complaints big yard swimming pool totally furnished couldn't ask for anything else only wish I could have stayed longer
My wife, our Golden Doodle, and I much enjoyed our week long stay in BSL. The highlight of our stay was the home which we rented. Our hosts were wonderful, supportive, helpful, and wanting to make our stay perfect. We were very comfortable. We loved the nostalgia of the train sounds daily off in the distance as we sat out on the porch where there was always a coastal breeze. The pool was a perfect spot. It is very private. The fenced in yard was truly just a beautiful well groomed and developed garden. The home was perfect for us. It was very comfortable with many unmentioned amenities. The bed was so comfortable that after sleeping in it two days we drove to New Orleans and purchased a new mattress of the same type. There was great TV reception. BSL is a special place. Eating is varied and all good. The quaint shops were fun. And of course the Gulf and beaches are right at hand. The beaches were beautiful white sand and well groomed. Everything is dog friendly and our Maggie had a great time especially at the beach. Many people get around in golf carts. The carts are rentable and on our next trip we will rent one for a week. This was our first VRBO experience and it was perfect and inviting us to return. We will be back.
Thanks to our hosts for everything.

We truly enjoyed staying at this lovely home. The back yard and side yard are gorgeous!! The pool was clean and very enjoyable! The kitchen is fully stocked with all appliances and cookware/utensils. The home is in a convenient location, close to restaurants and shops.
Julia responded very quickly to our messages and was a joy to work with. We highly recommend this home and would definitely stay there again!

Not great for us but great for the dog.
The good - this property really works well for travelers with dogs. The yard is beautiful and fully fenced. The pool is cute with lots of outdoor seating. My dog loved exploring for the short 7 hours we were on the property.
The bad - we were recovering from COVID and our lungs were sensitive. There was a pervasive smell on the interior - a chemical smell and a smell that I identify as cigarette smoke and some sort of strong cleaning agent. By midnight, we were both coughing (again, recovering from COVID) to the point where we couldn't sleep (we were fine outside and at home, it was definitely something inside the cottage). We decided to pack up and drive all night to go home.
I wasn't going to leave a review at all but it was my communication with the owner that was so disappointing that led me to write this review. I emailed to explain why we left at 1:00 in the morning, after less than a day. I was not asking for a refund. The owner was very dismissive of my concerns and basically said "no one has ever smoked on this property" and that their maintenance person "didn't smell anything." Maybe, but they could have been kinder in their response.
I've rented a LOT of VRBOs over the years and unfortunately this one was not a good fit.
Our vacation dreams were simple:
-fabulous pool
-must love dogs
This place exceeded expectations on both. My husband, myself, and our XL lap dog needed to get away and wanted a place that had it all so we would never have to leave if we didnt want to. The house was adorable and the yard felt like a mini wildlife sanctuary. We definitely enjoyed ourselves!
Was a nice home base for visiting family in LA and MS coast. Perfect yard for my 10 year old GSD. Loved being able to walk to beach. Enjoyed our stay in BSL!
We have stayed several times and LOVE the cottage! Rick & Julia go out of their way to ensure a great experience! It was the hubby’s birthday & they even got bakery recommendations for me! It was too cool for the pool but we enjoyed the yard and of course my GSD’s enjoyed the squirrels! Can’t wait until next time!
I believe this is our 4th stay and by far our favorite BSL getaway choice. We love the house, pool and our 2 GSDS love the yard. Hopefully we can return soon.
The house was very clean, well stocked with everything you would need. It was nice to have pool to relax in or come back from beach to cool off. Dogs loved the yard and beach. We loved the fenced yard and doggy door so the dogs can come and go as needed. Doggy bags available all around the yard to keep up with the doggy messes
Just enough room for me and my two adult daughters. Beach is close but we choose the 2 beaches further down the road due to challenge of getting all your things through 3 wires and cement barrier wall with 8 steps. Has white soft sand and overall pretty clean. Water orange due to being so close to Mississippi river can walk out quite a ways and still be waist deep. Would make sure you take bug repellent mosquitoes. nats and flies are bad. stay was very relaxing and we enjoyed our stay it was like being in our own home. Train tracks close by but got use to it going by frequently after a few days did not keep us up or wake us up at night. The stay was very relaxing and we enjoyed our stay it was like being in our own home. The owner always got back with an answer within a few hours if I had a question. I would recommend renting the house it is everything that was described plus more.
Love, love, love this Beautiful Cottage! Immaculate! Clean and beautifully decorated! The neighborhood was so quiet and peaceful. The pool was lovely and so inviting! So nice to have coffee by the pool and bird watch in the mornings. The beach is an easy walk down the road, and Old Town just minutes away! Check in was so easy, and Rick, the owner, was ready and waiting to field any and all questions I had! Super friendly and helpful! Can’t wait to get back to my Sweet Little Cottage! Don’t miss out on this one, such a Gem! Thanks again, Rick and Julia!♥️
It was our first time to visit the gulf and this place a nice little getaway in a small town. The pool was great when the beach was too windy. Recommend with people with dogs.

About the host
Hosted by Julia Kingham
We live in New Orleans and have been visiting BSL for many years. The contrast from the bustle of the city is really relaxing, and we find the locals welcoming and friendly. We are huge dog lovers and have often run into the dilemma of our dogs being large and having three total makes it almost impossible to find accommodation. So we are happy to open our home to responsible dog owners. Quite a few of the bars/restaurants allow dogs, which we really take advantage of.
Why they chose this property
It is walking distance to the beach and old town. We have comfortable outdoor seating for lounging and dining, and an all around well appointed and tastefully decorated cottage.
What makes this property unique
The old historic charm of this cottage reminds of us New Orleans, with the benefit of being walking distance to the water, and small town atmosphere.
