We enjoyed our stay at this lovely, cozy cabin and would definitely stay here again. We were there for a Va Tech game so we didn't have much time to relax and enjoy the property but it was cozy and perfect for our needs. The beds were comfortable and we loved the front porch!
The cabin is lovely, comfortable and is fully equipped for anything you may need. The setting is quiet and relaxing. Unfortunately, the cooler temps did not allow us to tube or kayak but the creek looks inviting.
We really enjoyed the red pine cottage. The cottage itself was very well maintained and the location was so nice. We hope to make it a yearly fathers day tradition visiting red pine cottage.
We had another great trip to Red Pine Cottage even though the power was out when we arrived due to hurricane Helene. The owner was on her game with info and follow up as well as trying to make our trip great. Power was restored before the projected time. Communication always makes a difference and we will back again.
I absolutely loved this house and surrounding propery, it is stunning. The creek was crystal clear and so fun for swimming & tubing. I recommend staying here, and would stay again, but should mention this propery is very bare- bones in regards to kitchen supplies...no measuring cups, salt or pepper, oil, not even the most basic condiments. However, there were sufficient pots/ pans/dishes/flatwear/serveware. The house was clean, but I found some of the furnishings were not up to par for how nice the house is (most importantly the beds, which are old squeaky spring mattresses). Just be sure to bring ALL necessary groceries and some citronella candles for the wonderful deck and you are set. My family really enjoyed our stay & hope to return.

Hi Leah, we are SO glad that you had such a good time that you want to bring your family back again! The creek is amazing! Your right, we are a bit bare-bones in the cabin right now, as noted in our Arrival Email, we are taking extra precautions during Covid. While there should have been measuring cups (I will never understand why things like that disappear!), we are not supplying/leaving any condiments at this time. They are extremely high-touch surfaces and it's impossible to clean every item like that so we have chosen to just remove them for safety's sake.
While we do have spring mattresses, they are not old and we do our best to repair or replace items when they are no longer acceptable. We know that not everyone prefers the same furnishings but if there was something specifically defective with the beds, please let me know! I haven't had any other complaints and would like to check it out.
Thank you for your feedback, it is very valuable and we rely on it to keep our cabins nice! We do hope you will come again!
Kind regards.
The best thing about this property is the quiet and solitude. Cars very rarely drive by on the road, leaving the stream and birds as the only sounds. The large deck is wonderful to enjoy the serenity and the amazing stargazing after dark. This is one of the closest rental houses to Blacksburg, only about a 35-minute drive to the VT campus. Just a few negatives to mention. There is no gas grill which would have been nice to have, although there is a small charcoal grill. The beds (our group used 2 of the 6) are a bit rickety and squeaky. Also, the TV with Roku is difficult to navigate although with such a wonderful outside space the TV probably won’t be a priority.
We had a wonderful time during our visit. Having visited the area many times in years past we had always camped at local campgrounds. We hadn’t been back in several years and was really happy to find a house close to the river. It had everything we needed. Leigh was very accommodating and very quick to reply to any questions we had. Our only regret was planning it for only 3 nights. We are already planning to return and all agree we will definitely stay longer next time.
We were attending a family wedding nearby. It was wonderful to have such a lovey cabin to return to at the end of the day. We are already talking about our retun!!
The cottage and Walker Creek surpass the VRBO pictures. When we arrived, we were struck by the size of the creek and the ridge behind it. So beautiful! It was lovely to sit by the water and watch the light catch the greens and blues in the current. We had intended to have a fire but it was a little too chilly and wet. Next time! The cottage was adorable -- perfectly decorated and super clean. It was the perfect size for me, my husband and two daughters, one of whom, it a Tech student. Hopefully our son can join us next time. A huge selling point is the covered porch and big dining table that overlooks the creek. We'll definitely be back!
We loved every moment of our short stay. The house was fresh, clean, comfortable, and accommodating. The mountain atmosphere and creek were very refreshing and relaxing. Great location and timely getaway from suburban life.
Dispite having a large group of people tenting across the stream(they partied all day and long into the night), our family was able to have a memorable get together. Cabin could have been cleaner(moldy shower curtain, dirty coffee cups, foul smelling pillow, etc). Floating and fishing in the creek was fantastic!

Hi Eileen, we are so happy that your family had a great 4th of July weekend at our cabin! We take great pride in the cleanliness of our cabins and would have remedied those things immediately had you let us know they were problems during your stay! I want you to know that we have fixed the issues and thank you for your honesty. We rely heavily on our guests to do their part (ie cleaning the dishes they use as it's impossible to check every item in the cabin during a turn-around) but also to let us know when things are not up to par so that we can take action immediately. So, thank you for bringing these things to our attention!
I certainly wish we could control other land owners, too, even though it's a very rare occasion. I'm sorry that they were disruptive and happy that they didn't dampen your family's memories!
Kind regards.
Taylor family stay with magical memories made at this retreat
Absolutely beautiful set up, everything was perfectly described, the beds I would have to say were the most comfortable we have ever slept in per a rental and had many extra pillows and blankets. The only slight complaint is during our stay the weather was in the high 80's and the air conditioning in the house stayed around 79/80 during the day.
My family and I met for an extended weekend and could not have been more impressed with this property. The home is beautifully designed with immaculate attention to detail, and the property owners are so kind.
We enjoyed soaking up some afternoon sun and listening to the rushing river from the gorgeous front porch. A fire on the riverbed after fishing was the perfect end to a great day hiking to Cascade Falls (which is one of the more beautiful hikes we had ever been on).
We all highly recommend this property and plan to return for our next reunion! Thank you so much for providing the backdrop for so many new family memories!
This house was beautiful - it was quiet, had plenty of space for everyone and was about 30 minutes away from Blacksburg. It was the perfect location for social distancing but allowed us to get out and enjoy walking around campus and the Cascades without getting too close to other people :)
