Bear's Cottage sits alone in 200 acres of private woodland in North Norfolk. Although the woods are yours to explore, an inner garden has been created by the owners with a post and rail fence to stop children/dogs wandering too far unsupervised. There is an outside terrace area with garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue (fuel not included).
There is ample off-road parking for cars and a circular turning area in front of the property.
The Woodland
The wonderful private estate woodland surrounding Bears Cottage contains some of the largest and oldest of their species in the country. The woodlands age and diversity gives it a huge array of flora and fauna and guests have access to the whole woodland by foot and bicycle (not provided) and can also explore the 8 miles of tracks that intersect it.
Rare tree species include: Greek Fir, White Fir, Fraser's Fir, Grand Fir, Korean Fir, Causcasian Fir, Noble Fir, Monkey Puzzle or Chile Pine, Atlas Cedar, Cedar of Lebanon, Lawson Cypress, Nootka Cypress, Japanese Cedar, Colorado Spruce, Sitka Spruce, West Himalayan Spruce, Corsican Pine, Monteray Pine, Douglas Fir, Coast or Californian Redwood, Redwood or Wellingtonia, Western Red Cedar, Western Hemlock.
Species of bird at the last count include: Pheasant, Sparrowhawk, Buzzard, Stock Dove, Wood pigeon, Cuckoo, Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Kestrel, Magpie, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Marsh Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Blackcap Garden Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Wren, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Spotted Flycatcher, Robin, Dunnock, Chaffinch, Bullfinch, Greenfinch, Siskin.
The woodland is teeming with life from Deer to Frogs, Buzzards to Bees and the owners very much encourage guests and children to explore and discover the wonderful environment around them.
Please note; Groundsmen work all year round on the estate and may be seen working within the woodland during working hours.
