Viterbo is known as the City of the Popes: in the thirteenth century it was a papal seat and for 24 years the Papal Palace housed and were elected various Popes. In 1272 the Conclave was born, for the elections of the popes in "enclosure".
The city is also famous for transporting the Car of Santa Rosa, a demonstration on 3 September in honor of the patron saint. In 2013 the Machine is among the Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
