About this property
Shepherd's Cove - 5 Acre Beautiful Ocean-front Family Compound In Mid-coast Main
Choice dates still available this season. Welcome to Shepherd’s Cove – a modern, quiet, beautiful place to get away for a fun and a relaxing vacation, family reunion, unforgettable fall getaway, or sabbatical season.
This waterfront property with main house and separate guest cottage is located on an ocean cove on 5 ½ acres of wooded land on the little-traveled Bradford Point peninsula. It has a 650 foot-long driveway leading down to a large parking area for up to five cars and to the family compound.
The family compound consists of two separate buildings- a large, three-story main house and a smaller, fully contained guest cottage named Pooh. The main house has four large bedrooms (one with a king size Sleep Number bed) and two baths and can sleep eight; Pooh has a one bedroom and a loft, a full bath and can handle up to six persons. Maximum total guests for the compound at one time is limited to 10 persons. There is an extra fee of $500 for the guest cottage Pooh.
The main house is 75 feet from the ocean with 400’ of waterfront access. It is a modern, four-season, fully insulated, heated home with a large living area with a cathedral ceiling, floor-to-ceiling windows and hardwood floors throughout. The master bedroom is located on the main floor and the second large bedroom is upstairs. The lower walk-out level has two separate bedrooms, each with two twin beds, both with great ocean views. It has a fully applianced kitchen including a dishwasher and trash compactor, a downstairs laundry with washer and dryer, a dining area that seats up to to eight, an activities loft with a cathedral ceiling for family game/puzzle addicts. The large outdoor deck overlooking the ocean cove has a dining table with six comfortable chairs and a sun umbrella. There is also a large hammock overlooking the ocean.
“Pooh”, the smaller cottage, is decorated with charming beach side decor and is also a completely modern, four-season heated house with one bedroom that sleeps two, a full bathroom with shower, an open loft that can sleep three, a fully-equipped kitchen and a living area with pull-out sofa-bed. Pooh can sleep a total of six guests. French doors lead out to a deck overlooking the ocean.
In the fall, it is often so quiet that you can hear an oak leaf fall off of a tree. In the summer and early fall, sitting on the front deck, you will enjoy cool ocean breezes. Shepherd’s Cove is near enough that you can walk to the small town of Friendship or to the lobster dock, yet far enough to be an isolated, private retreat. On occasion you may see wildlife including turkey, deer, fox, and a variety of beautiful birds, sometimes eagles. In the evening you can lie out on the deck and watch billions of brilliant stars come out to greet you.
There is a town landing boat ramp available ½ mile away if you want to bring your own boat or kayak/canoe.
A land line telephone is available for local calls; long-distance telephone service and Wi-Fi is available upon request. This property is available many weeks in May, June and July. In September and October, you can come to enjoy the stunningly beautiful New England fall leaves.
The main house can be rented with or without the smaller cabin. The fee structure is based on the rental of the main house only; an additional $ 500.00 fee is added for Pooh cabin. In either case, renters will always enjoy exclusive use of the property. Children are welcome. In deference to other renters with allergies, we do not allow pets.
In the fall, a shorter rental period will be considered and priced accordingly.

About the host
Hosted by Willis & Trudy Larson
Willis is a retired corporate executive initially from a small town in Southern Minnesota. Trudy grew up in Seattle and is presently a Suzuki violin teacher with her studio here in North Andover, MA, about 40 minutes North of Boston.
Why they chose this property
For many years, when our children were small, we had a property on Bainbridge Island, just off of the coast of Seattle that had been in the family since 1913. Every summer we would spend wonderful times vacationing there. Finally we decided to have a place closer to were we lived and searched for two years, until we found and purchased 5 1/2 acres on the ocean in Friendship, ME. where we built the Shepherd's Cove compound for our family.
What makes this property unique
Close to Rockland and Camden where there are many activities and wonderful restaurants.
