A wonderful holiday cottage, clean and well furnished and the pool is wonderful. Set in a peaceful rural location but with easy access to nearby villages/towns for shopping and day trips. We didn't want to come home

Lovely quiet getaway
The cottage is set on the outskirts of a very quiet village and is a lovely spot for a relaxed break and is ideal to explore the Cognac region - a car is a must. There is plenty of space both inside and outside the building. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great when we visited and so we didn't manage to get in the pool. The vicinity around the cottage is mainly made up of vineyards and fields of sunflowers. Behind the cottage is a wine maker and cognac distiller which is well worth a visit. La Rochelle and the Ile de Re were the highlights of our tours and the Chateau La Roche Courbon at St Porchaire was just stunning. Huge thanks go to the owners Christine and Kevin who were the perfect hosts and we would certainly recommend this property.
We had a lovely stay in this house for a full week. A warm welcome by Christine and Kevin. The authentic house was fresh and clean and has everything you need. A massive shed that we could use for our bikes was also a big plus. And then the wonderfulp and mega garden - really beautiful and well done including the heated pool which is separated so that it's kids proof. All together a really nice and relaxed place to stay.
We absolutely loved the cottage. It had every bit of authentic French character charm that we hoped it would. Beautiful windows. The pool area was wonderful and safe for the kids. The pool itself was clean and heated with lovely garden views. Kevin and Christine were perfect hosts. We used the bikes to go for rides across surrounding lanes which were all flat and surrounded by fields full of poppies and grapevines.
If going with kids then definitely visit La Chateau des Enigmes. A great mystery trail throughout the house and gardens.
The towns of Pons, Saintes and Cognac were all good day trips.
For Cognac tasting and distillery tour we went to the house of Hine, next to the river in Jarnac, about 25 minutes away. We highly recommend it. Even the kids were interested and enjoyed it.
We loved the whole area. A bit more sleepy than England in the villages but we found it relaxing.
Our only complaint was the changeable weather but that couldn’t be helped.
We would really recommend this cottage to anyone considering it.

Idylic Setting
Very well kept, clean and tidy farmhouse set in extensive, beautiful gardens with a lovely heated swimming pool. Bicycles, badminton and board games provided along with UK freesat. Rural retreat - great place to unwind and relax. A car is a must as the towns of Cognac and Saintes perhaps a 20 min drive away. Christine & Kevin lovely people and are perfect hosts.

Beautiful holiday home
Wished we could have spent longer in this beautiful holiday home. Very relaxing holiday. We spent days relaxing by the pool and playing badminton and football. Very spacious gardens with lovely flowers and trees. We visited La Rochelle which was about an hours drive away. We also visited the zoo at Royan.
It was a very well equipped house, fridge/freezer, microwave, oven/hob, lovely shower room with washing machine. English TV too. The house was full of character.
The owners Kevin and Christine were very welcoming and helpful.
I would definitely recommend this gorgeous accommodation.

Brilliant. Already booked for next year.
This is a tremendous place to stay. The property has everything you need. We were only two but the property can accommodate six and still not be crowded. Two good size bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom/we. We never used bath upstairs because there is a large shower room/wc/washroom downstairs. Large living/dining room and fully equipped kitchen. Christine and Trevor are a very nice couple who are available close by if you need any help. Really nice swimming pool which, although shared with a smaller property, is nicely secluded by well placed, maintained flora and bushes which enable the two properties to be completely separated from the pool. Extensive garden area for casual walks or playing boule or other games. Three is even a self contained gym for the energetic. Next door is a cognac distillery which Christine or Trevor will organise a visit for you. It is a must to visit. Shops within easy driving distance. Boulangerie within reasonably easy cycling distance if you are fit. I'm not. Bikes are available for use by guests. BBQ also available. Lots of places to visit within easy access for a car or motorbike as we had when we visited in June. This really is a nice place to stay. We booked a return visit next year before we left we were so impressed.

Comfortable and Relaxing
This was our first holiday in the Cherente and we were so pleased to have picked this Gite for our stay. The owners, Chris & Kevin were there to greet us and were a great help all through the week when we needed it.
The Gite is imaculate, comfortable and well equiped.
We loved the surrounding area and will be back for a longer stay to see more...... A bonus was that a local wine maker lived next door and his wine is wonderful, a must for any visitors

Beautiful, relaxing house.
We had a lovely week here, a family of 4 with boys aged 11 and 14. The pool was very warm, and they played loads of badminton.
I just relaxed!
They loved the fact they could watch CBBC and laze around!
It is a very quiet area, but found a really good restaurant on Matha, and had a great trip out to Ile de Re and La Rochelle. Saintes is gorgeous and Cognac nice too. Although it feels remote, there is a massive supermarket in Matha.
We mainly had lunches out and then cooked or BBQed in the evening.
We used the bikes for cycle rides and could cycle 2 miles to a sweet little lake with pedaloes.
The weather was stunning every day and was very hot by the end of the week.
A great week, thank you!

Holiday July/August 2012
The holiday was excellent and the property and facilities were exactly what was advertised, if not better.
The environment was relaxed and tranquil.
Our hosts were always available if needed, attentive to our needs and informative about the local area and activities available.
A great holiday home that we would be happy to return to.

Gite
We stopped at the gite for 3 weeks in August 2009. It was absolutely fantastic. The gite was fully equipped home from home. Clean and comfortably. Christine and Kevin were very discreet but if you needed them were always on hand and willing to help.
We visited Cognac and Saintes well worth a look. We also went to La Rochelle The Aquarium well worth a visit. Thanks to Christine for the phone calls.
The garden was huge. There were the bikes and bbq. The pool was just perfect made the holiday. Didnt want to come home.
Thanks to Christine and Kevin we will see you again.
