Self-Catering, First floor accommodation in the Heart of Rural Brittany

This cosy renovated self-catering apartment is situated in rural Brittany. All accommodation on offer is situated on the first floor with the owners living on the ground floor, both units being separated by a thermal and acoustic insulated suspended floor and is indicated on the photo's as the stone building. The cream rendered building attached is owned by and used for storage by the owners and is therefore not habitable. The property is in a quiet and peaceful location but not isolated and is within easy reach to local amenities (transport required). Ample parking is available off-road to the side of the cottage for cars with private access to the first floor, ample parking to the rear for motorcycles . The accommodation is a great 'central' base from which to explore Brittany. The first floor accommodation was created during 2014/16 to a high standard with other extensive renovations to the whole cottage and grounds. Whilst the accommodation is suitable for children we suggest it is not suited to infants under the age of 5 years approx. due to the open tread staircase and non-availability of stairgate, cot and highchair.
Although the owners are on site, they will be available only as much or as little as you need!
Access to the whole of the exterior, just under an acre is available, as is use of the Hot Tub (dressing gowns and 'crocs' provided), by request.

An absolute gem of a place

Thanks to the hard work by hosts Dave & Viv Canal cottage is by far the best rental we have had for many a year. Comfort-wise the property has everything you could wish for, we certainly couldn't have asked for anything more. We highly recommend Canal cottage to anyone considering a break in Brittany.

Above and beyond

We had a brilliant stay at Canal Cottage. The outdoor space is amazing, and Dave and Viv really have thought of everything to make the most of the indoor space. Our boys loved the massive garden, and we all enjoyed the hot tub and eating outdoors. Dave and Viv are very hospitable but in no way intrusive. We would definitely recommend!

Absolutely Awesome!!

Couldn’t ask for anything more, Dave and Viv are definitely hosts with the most!! Nothing is too much trouble, friendly, helpful and just good fun!! Accommodation is spot on, there was five us with plenty of room, comfortable clean what more do you want!! Absolute Gem of a property!! Will definitely stay again!! Loved it xx

Incredible Hosts!

We were greeted upon arrival with smiles and open arms! They were soooo accommodating with everything you could possibly need for your stay! The space was incredible! Super spacious! I got sick while there and they sent me upstairs with some meds that made me feel so much better! They were very knowledgeable and helped us navigate the country! This is a must see if you’re in this area! Dave and Viv will treat you like family!

Fantastic Stay

Even the rain couldn’t dampen our experience with Dave and Viv. I’m not sure where to start with the number of extras, personal touches and thoughtful additions which made this a memorable family holiday. The accommodation is spotless. Quality towels, bedding and fully appointed kitchen, along with welcome pack was truly appreciated. Our teenagers particularly enjoyed the garden games, including table tennis and we all made use of the bikes that are freely available to use. What really made our time enjoyable was Dave and Viv’s hospitality. Friendly, helpful, kind - a real credit to Vrbo. When teenagers ask when we can return, you know you’ve found a gem!

Outstanding! Extraordinaire! Sobresaliente!

We have just had a fantastic week in Dave and Viv's wonderful gite. We are a couple with three older children aged 20,18 and 15 who really enjoyed having their own rooms as they usually have to share or argue about who is sleeping on the sofa bed on holiday! The gite itself is stylish, comfortable and spotlessly clean and is very well equipped. In the kitchen, there is all the cutlery, crockery and cooking equipment that you would ever need. There are plentiful towels, lovely bed linens and even bathrobes all included in the price, which really cuts down on packing. The attention to detail was lovely, as is the 'welcome pack' of bread, butter, orange juice, wine and French jam. The garden is simply stunning. It is HUGE and immaculately attended and we spent a couple of days of our holiday relaxing there, in and out of the sun and shade, as there is a variety of sun loungers and chairs and a garden dining set for when we wanted to eat outside. Dave and Viv are amazing hosts. They have mastered the art of being super helpful and on hand for advice without being at all intrusive. They have quite a collection of activities and games that the kids could enjoy in the garden. They gave us lots of ideas for excursions and Gueltas is ideally situated for exploring being right in the middle of the region. We had some fantastic times exploring the rocky coves in the north of Brittany and the beautiful, wide beaches near Carnac. Within a few kilometres of the gite, there is a new 'accrobranche' centre where you can spend the day tree climbing and rushing down zip wires. The kids loved it. Many of the gites I've stayed in are so isolated that you need to drive to the nearest boulangerie etc. The location of Canal Cottage is ideal because the nearest small shop, boulangerie, poste, and pharmacie are only a short bike ride away on one of the bikes available at the gite. A wonderful holiday! Ce gite est tout simplement extraordinaire! A l'intérieur, il est beau, tres bien equipé et tres confortable. Le prix comprend les draps et les couettes, les serviettes et meme les robes de chambre donc le rapport qualité/prix est super. L'appartement est beau mais le jardin est magnifique. Il est énorme et tres joli. Dave et Viv ont beaucoup de jeux pour les enfants: le badminton, des vélos, des jeux de société ... Les proprietaires sont super gentils et chalereux mais aussi tres discrets. Ce gite mérite bien ses cinq étoiles.

Des vacances de rêve

Nous avons passé 15 jours de vacances au Top! Dav.et Viv. sont des Amours, à nos petits soins très discret mais très présent à la foi. Ils nous ont offert des légumes, nous avons profité de la table de ping pong du puissance 4 ,du spa (même tard le soir),Viviane a proposé un atelier peinture pour les filles de mes amis (Viviane est une Artiste)! Nous avons passé des soirées très sympas sous la pergola ! Nous sommes tous prêt du canal pour faire du vélo, c'est top! Dav et Vivaine sont des personnes avec un cœur énormes !

Wonderful

Les hôtes sont très accueillants et conviviaux sans être envahissants. Ils laissent à disposition l'ensemble d'un immense jardin et une terrasse couverte. Les lieux sont excellemment équipés et on dispose de deux barbecues (charbon ou gaz) et de nombreux jeux : ping pong, baby foot, fléchettes, Puissance 4 géant, Molkky... La décoration des lieux est superbe. C'est un lieu enchanté grâce aux propriétaires de l'endroit !

Venus à 6 entre amis pour un court séjour à l'occasion d'un mariage, nous ne nous attendions pas à un si bon accueil et une si mémorable soirée en compagnie nos hôtes. Notre expérience au gîte a vraiment fait partie intégrante de notre weekend entre amis et nous ne pouvons que regretter de n'avoir pas eu le temps d'en profiter encore plus. David et Vivienne sont des hôtes adorables et prévenants. Le gîte est très bien agencé, très confort et très bien équipé. D'une propreté irréprochable. Les espaces extérieurs sont eux aussi vraiment agréables. A ce jour c'est notre meilleure expérience de séjour dans une location : nous la recommandons donc chaleureusement !

Très bon accueil, propriétaires très à l’écoute,discrets, conviviaux. Une belle location et des hôtes inoubliables !

Appartement très propre et fonctionnel (à noter : 2 chambres avec un lit 2 places + 2 chambres avec un lit 1 place ; 2 WC : un dans la salle de bain et un autre séparé). Tout a été pensé dans les moindres détails . De nombreux éléments inclus dans le prix qui font toute la différence avec d'autres locations (draps/couvertures/oreillers /serviettes de toilette fournis et de qualité, produits de nettoyage inclus ainsi que le papier toilette, mouchoir, gel douche etc.... la liste est longue) et en plus, sont inclus : bain à remous (peignoirs et crocs fournis) dans le jardin , vélos/casques , babyfoot, table de ping pong etc... rien ne manque . Les propriétaires, Dav et Viv, se plient en quatre pour vous. Ce sont des hôtes d'une extrême gentillesse et plein de bienveillance (communication mixant français et anglais : nous nous sommes très bien compris !!) Nous n'oublierons jamais cette merveilleuse semaine de vacances chez Dav et Viv : nous y retournerons, c'est sûr!!

Accueil exceptionnel !

Dave & Vive sont des hôtes extraordinaire, très attentionnés, extrêmement gentil. Leur gîte est très confortable et très bien équipé avec tout le nécessaire. Les environs, très calmes sont appréciables pour les balades à pied ou à vélo ( vélos à disposition au gîte). Un vrai petit paradis !

Merveilleux séjour

Une semaine de découverte du Morbihan malgré une météo capricieuse ! Ce que nous retiendrons avant tout sont la gentillesse, la disponibilité et la bienveillance de David et Viviane, deux hôtes au cœur d'or ! Le cottage est magnifique, et par sa position centrale, permet de se déplacer facilement en Bretagne. Si vous recherchez le calme et la sérénité vous serez conquis et pourrez visiter l'esprit tranquille sans subir les assauts des grandes agglomérations. Quant à nous, nous reviendrons, c'est certain ! David et Viv sont un couple très chaleureux, accueillant et il ne manque rien dans l'appartement.

L'appartement est très bien équipé, on peut profiter de tout ce qu'il y a l'extérieur, salon de jardin, bbq, vélos et sans oublier le superbe jaccuzzi où nous avons passé de superbes moments. David et Viv sont toujours disponibles et très agréables.

Un paraíso en la Bretaña

Nuestra experiencia no ha podido ser mejor, Dave & Viv han hecho que nos sintiéramos como en casa , el lugar es muy tranquilo y tiene un encanto especial, ya echamos de menos el compartir un vino en el jardín, los paseos en bicicleta y sobre todo el jacuzzi!! Nada más llegar, teníamos preparados unos detalles de la zona que nos encantaron..ademas, les pedimos organizar una fiesta ya que nuestro hijo cumplía años y fue excepcional, todavía recordamos lo bien que lo pasamos. La limpieza de la casa es de 10 y es la primera vez que vemos tantos utensilios!! El lugar es estratégico para recorrer la Bretaña y Dave & Div nos ayudaron con todas las dudas. Div además es una artista y nos hemos traído a casa un mini proyecto para hacer, no se puede pedir más. Nos ha quedado pendiente el tiro con arco y es que hay algo claro y es que ya tenemos ganas de volver. Un sitio 100% recomendable, de los que marcan la diferencia y hacen que tu viaje sea especial. Gracias por hacernos sentir así.

Although purchased in 1990 the cottage was used for rental accommodation and holidays until 2013 when we took early retirement and moved to France to enjoy the change in lifestyle, quality of life, peace and quite. We have renovated the property and added the First Floor accommodation. Our goal is to ensure all guests enjoy their time with us at Canal Cottage and desire to return. We therefore will be available for as much or as little as you want.

Canal Cottage is for all ages who look for peace and quiet during their holiday and who would enjoy seeing and travelling through rural Brittany or just relaxing in the grounds of the Cottage or walking along the Canal towpath.

What makes this property unique

Brittany, particularly the rural parts, is an area with good roads usually free of traffic ques. The cottage backs onto the Nantes to Brest Canal and the towpath is easily accessible via the nearby lock gates approx. 100m away and is ideal for walking or cycling.
