spent a few days decompressing in this beautiful home once again and met up with lifelong friends for dinner. It was absolutely wonderful as always and owner is always easy to communicate with!
I'm someone who grew up in Morrow County and this property was everything I had hoped for and more. I've never felt so relaxed anywhere but my own home. Absolutely will come back!!
Great farmhouse on beautiful grounds. Huge kitchen and dining table with everything needed to prepare meals and enjoy as a family. Beds were comfy and ceiling fans kept rooms cool. Large porch with rocking chairs and a great fire pit. Jennifer is an amazing host and handled any requests quickly and graciously. We loved our stay and will be back.
Beautiful home equipped with everything you need. ❤️
My family & I had a wonderful Thanksgiving at this property. It was a little of the beaten path but it had a beautifully equipped kitchen & we were able to watch OSU game. They have 2 living areas. We had a great time fixing admires on b the firepit.
We come to Marengo each summer for our kids to compete at the Cardinal Center. This lovely home was only 25 minutes from the shooting complex. It was relaxing and had room for all four of our teenagers.
Exceeded my expectations! Very clean, very well stocked with necessities, modern appliances. If you are looking for a little isolation from our hectic world, this is the place!15 min drive to grocery store. So so relaxing! Perfect for families to reconnect with each other
A fantastic get away to relax and recharge. House was very, very clean and grounds well kept. Kitchen stocked with everything you need and then some. Comfy beds and great rain head shower in the upstairs bath. Plenty of space for many guests to sit and hang out both inside and out. Yet cozy for a small group. Lovely 100+year old farmhouse with modern amenities. Holidays here must be magical. Would love to return.

Thank you Emily! We loved having you stay and come back over the holidays anytime!
Our visit had so little that wasn’t perfect, it isn’t worthy of note. The owner contacted me prior to the visit and along with the info sheet, answered most questions before they were asked. She acknowledge all my messages in a timely manner. Check in- home entry was a non-event. All the preplanning on the part of the owner made it painless. We utilized the kitchen and charcoal grill. The spacious kitchen and eat in area was up to the task of morning and evening meals for 10 grown men.Unfortunately the weather didn’t allow much use of that massive deck but the covered front porch seemed to be the place to retire and watch the lightning bug show.Everyone was pleased with the accommodations even with almost every bed occupied. If we pass this way again, we will try to rent this location.
Beautiful home and setting. Lots of space, very well appointed and comfortable. Great getaway.
Spacious, well appointed house with lots of fun things to do. Great place to relax, play games, enjoy the local state park (fishing, hiking). Quiet with lots of wildlife to see - especially while enjoying the large wrap around deck. Huge kitchen, comfortable - clean bedrooms and lots of space for a family / friends get away week or weekend. Very relaxing. Enjoy!
The home was perfect for our needs with plenty of space and the kitchen....ooh that kitchen was amazing. Everyone also loved the grounds. The owner was also so great to deal with. She was very attentive to our needs and always communicated quickly.
Everything was very nice for this farmhouse stay in the middle of Ohio farm country. The house was in immaculate condition with all the modern amenities you expect, including AC to help with the hot summer days. Fully-equipped kitchen, lots of sleeping choices, and everything was clean and in good condition. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend!
We gathered together our large family to celebrate a recent HS graduation. We had 8 adults in the house and there was plenty of room for all. The house is on a beautiful setting overlooking a pond and farmland. We used the fire pit each night and some of us even tried the disc golf course on the property!
The house was great! Had plenty of outdoor area to sit and enjoy the pond, the sunset and nature. The house was exceptional. Nicely decorated, comfy beds and plenty of room. Owners were super nice and helpful.
Had a really good experience for our 2 night stay. Lots of amenities and the house was freshly renovated. Great communication with the owner. Overall great experience. Highly recommend.

my experience at the farmhouse
My first initial thought about this house was that it was a perfect place for my friends to gather and spend quality time with each other for the Inkcarceration festival. I couldn't believe I found this house for us all to fit very comfortably and being in a prime location near the festival, it was kinda pricey for only renting for 4 nights but I didn't mind considering the other positive factors that came into play. Yes, the house is very beautiful and spacious but I started noticing little things here and there that should have been taken care of before I checked into the house ( i.e., a few men were cutting the grass while unloading our stuff they kind of blocked us from getting inside, there were quite a lot of dead light bulbs, light switches that didn't have a purpose, the smaller lamps didn't seem to work, no instructions on how to use the dishwasher nor the oven, thick spiderwebs were all in the corners of the windows, the deck still had leaves all over, porch furniture was dirty, garbage cans weren't located where the rules said they would be, the ring cameras weren't covered like as stated they would be in the rules so every time we all left the house the chime plug inside the house would go off, there were multiple versions of the house's rules which made it difficult to figure out what to go by). I'd like to point out not all of my friends and I can fit into one car, so one stayed back and waited for his brother and sister-in-law to pick him up to join us. The next morning I received a panicked text from the owner assuming I was having a giant party inviting the entire population of Ohio to stay at this house, when I booked this house on VRBO I let her know in a message "6 guests are staying at the house while 2 other guests would only briefly hang out at the house", she gave me the OK but could have been easily avoided, it didn't make us feel very comfortable knowing we all were being watched on the Ring cameras that was said to have been covered during our stay. The rules also state to check out before noon which we did, I get a text from the owner at 8pm sending me a photo demanding to know what's on the used dirty towels(all white towels are bound to get dirty). I never thought I would receive discourteous texts well after the check out time, later the owner sent a back-peddled text. But we've all decided not to stay here for any future gatherings.

Thank you for your kinds words about our home being beautiful and spacious. We take great pride in our property. The house rules state IF YOU choose to cover the ring doorbell then feel free to do so. Any guests have the right and opportunity to cover them. We are very glad you pointed out the light bulbs as we do not know when they are out, so we were able to change the two bulbs that were out. The small lamps need plugged in. The weekly housekeepers had unplugged to vacuum and did not plug back in. The house was checked before and after check out and there were no huge cobwebs anywhere in our home. We have a cleaning crew that is in our home twice a week to prepare for any group and although we could not find any cobwebs, we did address this with them for future cleanings. This is a country home on lots of land and needs mowed weekly. I was kind enough to allow this group to check in at 2:30 instead of 4:00, so the fact that the lawncare guy was there for one hour during their check-in should not be a concern. This is the country. There are leaves everywhere. The porch furniture is fading due to the sun, but it was not dirty. I was there when they checked in to personally walk through. There was pink all over several towels and so yes I did send a nice text asking if they knew what it was so that we could treat it the right way as they are all brand new towels. There was also no message or asking of two additional guests on property as they stated in their review. We are always accommodating and flexible, but there was no mention when booking our home of the additional people that showed up at the house. We also left a gift basket with handmade sleep masks, homemade chocolates and cookies. We hope that you enjoyed that.
This farmhouse is loved, and it shows! Clean, bright, cozy, and comfortable inside and out. No shortage of gathering spaces to connect with friends. Thank you Jennifer!
There should be more stars to rate this property! It is simply a little slice of paradise in the middle of Ohio. This was our second year in a row, and we're already planning for next year.
The house has everything you need for a relaxing stay. Well appointed kitchen, very comfortable beds, and beautiful outdoor areas with seating to relax. It rained almost every day this year, and we loved sitting on the front porch in the mornings watching/listening to the rain drinking coffee. The owner is a delight to work with. Very responsive to questions or concerns.
This would easily be a ten star property!
The house was nice and secluded. Very pretty farm house with plenty of space for two families. Everything was there that we needed and when we discovered there was no dishwashing cleaner the owner was quick to get arrange for us to get some. The lot was gorgeous, and the back deck was very nice!

About the host
Hosted by Jennifer Franch
I grew up next door to the farmhouse and it has been in my family for 115 years. I have always dreamed of owning the home and passing it along to my children. It was completely gutted and remodeled by the local Amish except for the original hardwood floors and wood trim. Only a few major changes in structure were made to accommodate making larger bathrooms. My husband and I just decided this year that it was time to officially rent out the home and share it with guests so they can enjoy the serene country setting like we do!
Why they chose this property
The Smith Farmhouse is like a step back in time. It is so relaxing, peaceful and private and I haven't met a person that doesn't love the home and property. We also recently installed a 9 hole disc golf course on the property for guests to enjoy.
What makes this property unique
It was always told that the Underground Railroad ran through the home. The first known year that people lived in the house is 1948, but it is possible that it was as early as 1933. It is a very historic home and a wonderful getaway just less than an hour from the city.
