Wildlife and birdlife are abundant, with red kites being a regular sighting over the loch. This unspoilt area of south west Scotland offers magnificent scenery, along with some of the finest sandy beaches and rocky coves to explore. There are also many traditional fishing villages and harbour ports that are worth a visit. Kirkcudbright, ’the artists’ town’, has art galleries, antique shops, museums and shops, whilst Castle Douglas, 2 miles, is known as Scotland’s food town. This is an excellent area for walkers and cyclists, with Dalbeattie 7Stanes nearby, and the Galloway Forest Park and Dark Sky Park also easily reached. Golf course 3 miles. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 150 yards.
