About this property
Mahakaruna, A beautiful Mountain house with a view of Mt. Annapurna.

WHEN YOU STAY AT MAHAKARUNA THE ENTIRE HOUSE IS YOURS TO ENJOY.
Families, nature lovers, romantic couples, groups of friends, artists, writers, and anyone seeking a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life will feel right at home in this mountain hideaway. Mahakaruna was designed as a family holiday home away from the tourist hordes in a very quiet rural location. You’ll find charming open-plan living and dining areas, modern bathrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen with a washing machine.
We have installed a wood burner to heat the house in the cold days and also added a heat pump so you have hot water any time of the day.
(Please note: Children under 3 go free, 6-15 £35 per child, 16+ full price).
Fast Internet is easily accessible on phones and tablets/ PCs (personal hot spots). SIM cards with mobile data can be obtained at the airport and most of the phone shops. (THERE IS NO WI-FI IN THE HOUSE AS IT IS INTENDED AS A LOW-TECH ZONE FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO HAVE A BREAK FROM THE USUAL FLOOD OF INFORMATION.)
TV For the reasons mentioned above, there is no TV in the house.
Outside is a terrace, patio, landscaped garden, children’s playground and a traditional outdoor kitchen for those al fresco meals prepared over an open fire. A LOCAL CHEF IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE of the stay so you can enjoy the finest local cuisine, with fresh vegetables from our organic garden.
We want to be as helpful as we can so you can get the most from your stay. While we are based in London we are available by email, phone, WhatsApp, and Viber and encourage you to get in touch before your stay and talk through your plans.
We have a trusted colleague in Pokhara who can help with on-the-spot issues. Transport, food provisions, guides, and porters can be arranged at an extra cost. Please do ask for more details.

By staying at Mahakaruna you will be supporting Purna’s long-term community project, Garden in the Himalayas in nearby Tanchowk. This organic flower and vegetable garden sustains many rare endemic species that help to diversify the local diet and also provide an educational and conservational focus for the local community. With its little temple of Kanchi Barah, the goddess protector of the village, it is a haven for birds and a truly magical spot.
Tanchowk village is easily accessible by car and we can arrange comfortable transport for you from Pokhara or Katmandu. Public transport is also an option. A jeep runs through the village twice daily and there is a local bus from Pokhara to Lumle, about a 45-minute walk away on a flat dirt road.
