Stone Cottage @ Bemboka River Cottages

Sit back and relax and enjoy the stunning scenery.

Our cottages are pet friendly and pets can roam the large fenced gardens, enjoy the w alking trails and rocky river - a perfect restful retreat or a romantic getaway.

The stone cottage is the original cottage at Bemboka River Cottages and was built out of timber from the property and large stones from the river. The cottage stays pleasantly cool in summer and the log fire keeps it cosy in winter.

The cottage sits high on the hill overlooking farming paddocks.

Please note our home is also on the property along with our 2 very friendly dogs.

Bemboka River Cottages is a mixture of cleared paddocks and natural bushland to be explored. There are fire trails and bush walks that continue along the mountain ridge to Bemboka Ridge one way and to the Walls in the other direction. Native flora and fauna are in abundance. The elusive lyrebird, lace monitors, wombats, bower birds building nests, echidnas and of course a variety of parrots and other birds.

At the front of the property is the Bemboka River with a large swimming hole and waterfall to explore. Take a walk along the road to Happy Valley and enjoy the beauty and peace of the local countryside with many opportunities for photographs. At night you can go spotlighting and see owls, wombats and possums or just soak up the beauty of the night sky.

A nature and bird-lovers paradise with bush trails for nature walks and a natural swimming hole in the river to explore. Enjoy spectacular views, a variety of birdlife, echidnas, wombats, farm animals and large shady fenced gardens for the discerning pet. Cycling, walking, relaxing.
Short 30 minute drive to pristine beaches, fishing, cafes and shops and galleries.

Locally, on the Sapphire coast, there is swimming, fishing, horse riding, canoeing, grape and fruit wineries, art galleries and craft studios, the famous Bega Cheese Factory, Bemboka Pie shop, Tathra Wharf, Candelo markets and of course whales in season. Our beaches are pristine and uncrowded and there are many leash free beach areas for pets.

Local Attractions

Trail and bush walks, cycling, stunning rural views, National Parks, Beaches, Swimming,Brogo Dam (canoeing),Weekend Markets, Crafts and Local Produce. Tathra and Merimbula beaches close drive.

A visit to the historic wharf at Tathra is a must to enjoy the beauty of the beach and the cuisine of the area. A visit to the Bega Cheese Factory is also a must. Watch cheese being made, visit the museum, café, local craft gift shop and sample the cheeses. There are local fruit and grape wineries to visit, plus local markets each weekend, the most popular of all being the Candelo Markets, which are on the first Sunday of the month.

Three quarters of the Sapphire Coast is either pristine Wilderness, National Park or State Forests. You can visit magnificent deserted beaches, sample freshly caught fish at Bermagui and Eden, visit the historical villages of Pambula and Cobargo and their numerous art and craft galleries, take a whale watching cruise (Sept to Nov), go big game fishing, take in a round of golf at one of the many local golf courses or take a joy flight and see how beautiful it all is from the air.

Loved our stay
We were really looking forward to a 2 night stay in the after a couple of long days driving. Stone cottage did not disappoint. It was very quaint and well equipped and the homemade bread was a bonus. The weather was ordinary but we were happy vegging. We pre planned a number of options for food as there was no supermarket handy. Our dog really enjoyed the enclosed yard. We would recommend the tranquility of Stone Cottage to anyone.

Comforting cottage
Beautiful property. Amenities and extras that were available kept making the expectation heightened. Walked through the door to the beautiful smell of fresh homemade bread that was left in the bread warmer! Fantastic enclosed garden/backyard for dogs. Jaw dropping views from every window. One of the few places that the wife and I have saved as a 100% will return, likely with the kids next time :)

Quiet mountain escape
Nestled into the surrounding forrest and mountains this cottage overlooks the nearby river and valley. We wanted to unwind and disconnect from the world on this weekend getaway. We got exactly that from this charming cottage and surrounding area. Bringing enough food - we didn’t have to leave the area at all. Was lovely to arrive to smell of fresh baked bread -which we enjoyed on bbq steak sandwich’s as we sat outside enjoying the view! The river was a refreshing dip and the cottage gardens were well fenced for our dog that joined us. The hiking trails were overgrown, so hoping next time they are more accessible - but that is the joy of walking on trails never know what you are going to get.

A breathtakingly magical experience
Our stay at Stone Cottage exceeded all our expectations! The cottage was immaculate and every detail within it giving you the experience of it feeling like home. From the moment you walked in you could smell the freshly baked bread and Karyn and Jeff supplied you with goodies like fresh eggs, milk, juice, chocolates and more! The fireplace was stacked and ready to go aswell! It was so comfy and the views simply magical. The regular daily visit by one of the dogs was the icing on the cake... he was checking in to say hello and we loved it! The stay was peaceful and you really had everything you wanted. We've been on a few rural cottage stays all wonderful, but this one... really did exceed our expectations. Thank you so much Jeff and Karyn for making it an experience to remember. We hope to visit again in the future! Everyone needs to experience Stone Cottage @ Bemboka River Cottages.

Autumn Stay at Bemboka River Cottages
My sister and I (plus our 3 elderly dogs) stayed at "The Stone Cottage" for 5 nights over the Anzac Day Long . I drove up from Melbourne and my sister drove up from Canberra. The cottage was lovely, fully stocked with tea/coffee/orange juice/fresh eggs etc plus wonderful smell of home cooked bread greeted us when we arrived. The property itself is a lovely farm with miniature Galloway cows, a friendly dog named Chip and free range chooks. The cottage was very warm and cosy at night, beds lovely and snug. Most importantly, the cottage had secure fencing so the dogs had a lovely big back yard. Would love to visit this place again.

Fun family stay
We had a great time here, really nice property owners. Our dogs loved it and made friends with Chip the friendly dog who lives near by. The goats near by were super fun to watch. Dips in the close river to cool off were refreshing. We used it as a base to visit places nearby and some days were happy to just relax around the cottage, reading or watching a movie.

Loved it!
We stayed 4 nights and really enjoyed staying at the Stone Cottage, even though it rained most of the time, but some ponchos and umbrellas let us do plenty if activities. Whisper quiet area other than surrounding farmland noises (i.e. mooing cattle) in the distance and the flow of the river. Very clean and comfortable, fully equipped kitchen. Plenty to do around the property, nice fire trail behind the main house for bushwalking, Chip the owner's dog leads the way, he's a ball of energy and comes to visit a few times a day. The river is just across the road and has an excellent swimming hole with sandy bottom and some nice little waterfalls flowing into it, we went every day. Our boys took their boogie boards and rode down the fast flowing water, having a great time. I would imagine the water flow would stop in drier times, but the swimming hole would be permanent. The cottage front balcony is the place to rest with a nice drop and look out onto the paddock with it's cattle. Plenty of native birds around, and chickens get let out to roam the gardens to forage for food. Nearby Bemboka Pie shop definitely worth a visit. The drive from Bega is jaw dropping. We visited Tathra and Merimbula, both great for our German Shepherd dog for swimming and walks. Would definitely stay again, thanks to Jeff and Karyn for creating such a unique experience and sharing your property with the world.

Country Splendour
Huge thanks to Jeff and Karyn for sharing their beautiful acreage, and Stone Cottage. Friendly, welcoming, lovingly decorated. Indoors: Everything you could possibly need has been thoughtfully included. The cottage is extremely clean & tidy. Boardgames, DVD'S, dog bowls and towels are there for your use. Outdoors: miniature Galloway cattle, miniature goats, friendly farm hounds who will happily visit and play with you and your pets, BBQ, outdoor swings, outdoor games, a short walk down the hill to the river for a swim if it's not in flood, a slightly longer walk uphill to the firetrail and stunning pocket of rainforest. If Jeff is about he's happy to tell you about the property and take you for a tour if you're interested. Accommodation is securely fenced to keep your pets or service animals safe. Although we had torrential rain during our visit we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Fabulous!
I stayed at the Bemboka Stone Cottage with my husband and our mini Dachshund dogs for three nights from 26 October 2022. We absolutely loved our stay. The cottage has been set up beautifully. The lounge, dining, kitchen areas run side by side so you can see the lovely fireplace blazing away warming the whole cottage. There are two bedrooms, one generous size with a very comfy queen bed and the other with two single beds. The bathroom is modern and spacious with a walk-in shower, not over a bath. Inside the cottage there is everything you could possibly need, A full size fridge, plenty of kitchen appliances, cookware, utensils and gadgets. There are around 4 steps up to the main bedroom and to the bathroom/second bedroom area. Views from the front deck are relaxing and we loved sitting on the stools sipping bubbles and watching the dogs run around the fenced and gated yard. Our small dogs were able to get out of one gate by ducking underneath but you could easily put something there to stop that if you have a small dog. One of the resident dogs, Chip, who lives behind came to visit each day and played happily with our dogs when we let him in. Chip also took us on a walk around the back of the property through the forest. Patiently waiting for us if we got sidetracked looking at birds and flowers. There is also an amazing creek/river not far away that is worth exploring. And the cows, horses, chickens and ducks were great to sit and watch. When you visit, wander behind the hosts house to see the two gorgeous little goats. Friends came for lunch one day and they agreed that the cottage is indeed charming and makes for a relaxing holiday or a more energetic time if you choose to hike, walk and explore. The hosts, Jeff and Karyn and their children and super friendly and happily chatted with us. As everyone says, the fresh baked bread, eggs, juice and milk were so welcome and these hosts have really taken the time to think of all the little bits and pieces that people may need on a holiday. We really did have a lovely time and will, and already have, recommended this property. Thank you so much to Jeff, Karyn, children, doggies and all the other properties pets for a great few days.
