About this property
Charming, secluded turn of the century home ideal for a relaxing family retreat
Conveniently located near the crossroads of I-77 and I-81, The Glade is a charming and secluded fully updated turn of the century Victorian farmhouse, located on 62 private park like acres, ideal for a relaxing retreat, or a romantic escape. There are two rental options available, the main house with 4 b.r. and 2.5 baths sleeps 8, and the cottage with a full bath sleeps 2, both have decks with gas grills overlooking spring fed Reed Creek and can be rented separately or together. RATES SHOWN ABOVE ARE FOR THE MAIN HOUSE ONLY, reduced cottage rates apply when both are rented together, cottage will not be rented seperately when farmhouse is rented. Located only 5 miles from interstate and town, with shopping, dining, and all essentials including medical care close by. Close as The Glade is to town, once you cross over our 135' bridge you have escaped the outside world and will immediately feel your pulse slow. Both the cottage and the farmhouse have high-speed wireless internet.
FROM NOVEMBER 15TH THROUGH MARCH THE POSSIBILITY OF SNOW AND ICE EXISTS IN OUR AREA. THE DRIVE FROM GLADE ROAD TO OUR BRIDGE HAS A STEEP GRADE AND COULD BE DIFFICULT IN A 2 WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE IF THAT SECTION OF ROAD IS ICED OVER.
Getting There: Located 71 miles from Roanoke Virginia's airport, 75 miles from Bristol Tennessee's airport, and only 120 miles from Charlotte North Carolina's airport The Glade is within reach.
From Wytheville exit 70 on Interstate 81, continue right on Highway 52 N / Stoney Fork Road for 2.7 miles to State Road 664 / Glade Road on the left, continue 2.3 miles on Glade Road to the address and sign on the left. Follow the road along the cliff side continuing past brick house on the right to the bridge on the left. Cross the bridge and continue to the right +- 400' to the parking area, which is adequate for 4 vehicles. The private 135 foot bridge is the only access to The Glade as Reed Creek meanders for 1 mile around the property and the steep ridge in the back renders it virtually inaccessible otherwise. You will notice having crossed the bridge you are now on a peninsula created by Reed Creek which makes a hard right turn just past the bridge as it continues it's flow downstream to The New River.
The Accommodations : The 1910 restored and updated Victorian Farmhouse and cottage are located on a 7 acre peninsula. It features a large porch on two sides with rockers facing the gardens and the 4 acre manicured lawn on the bottom land where the vegetable, herb garden, and berry patch are located. The grassy lawn is suitable for a variety of sports activities from frisbee golf, and croquet, to touch football. On the creek side of the Farmhouse is a multi level deck with built in benches, a gas grill, with a beautiful long view of Reed Creek all conveniently located off the kitchen an arrangement ideally suited for enjoyable outdoor meals. The cottage which we call the 'Sugar Shack' is located next to the Farmhouse with a queen bed, full bath, it's own private deck, propane grill, mini fridge, and is ideal for a couple. With 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bedrooms in the Farmhouse, and a bedroom and full bath in the Cottage. There are 4 queens and 1 king sized beds providing comfortable accommodations for 10.
The Property: 'The charm of the property is impossible to describe, but anyone who visits feels it's enchantment. The charm lies neither in its architecture, though it has a certain rural 'kindness', nor in it's formal plan but in the site itself, the variety of spaces and experiences and the way people from one family have made themselves at home here for five generations.'
The Glade's sixty two park like acres are varied in terrain, with steep creek side ridges, open meadows, heavily wooded forrest trails, and pastoral grassy paths alongside a wide spring fed creek. Your visit may be relaxing, active, romantic, or a family reunion with multiple generations getting together. You can be assured with absolute certainty your time at The Glade will be a very special memory for all.

Our second stay in this wonderful property; our entire immediate family along with dogs were able to experience a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday while visiting extending family in Wytheville. The house is very welcoming and everything was just perfect!!We'll be back!
The home was clean and nicely appointed. We stayed during the Christmas season and were delighted to discover a decorated tree in the living room. The location is quiet and peaceful.
The three couples have been friends for almost a lifetime. We had a wonderful stay at Millers Glade. Fun, food, adventures and exploring. See you again soon
We were there for a bike race. We enjoyed the stay and reading the history of the land. Also, we enjoyed the wildlife around the property . It was very relaxing .
Would highly recommend this place. The setting was incredible. The house was incredible. Loved the uniqueness of the house. We did go for walks around the property and loved it.Very easy communication with the host. Would definitely rent this property again. One of our favourite properties to date. Five stars!
This is our third time staying at The Glade. It continues to be a peaceful place with lots amenities. Our favorite things to do are play board games on the deck, relax in hammocks by the creek and walk the dog all around the property.
We were a group of 5 couples that went on vacation from PA. Everyone loved this quiet, secluded property. Every thing you need is provided with this rental. Would definitely stay there again.
Nice house with everything we needed. The property is beautiful! The river is just steps away from the back porch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return for another visit.
What a perfect place to spend a week before our son’s wedding!! We loved the house and its location. The grounds we so extensive and well taken care of!
Very quiet and peaceful, too!
Wonderful property. Scenic with nice water views. They’ve thought of everything you might need during your stay. This farmhouse is full of character and charm with modern updates. Highly recommend.
My family and I enjoyed a week of the beautiful SW Virginia countryside! The town of Wytheville was so charming. Great food and shopping. We also spent time with friends and relatives. With our two adult children, their spouses, and our little granddaughter, this house was perfect! It was private, comfortable, and scenic.
The house is very roomy and clean. Definitely a 1910 style home but with modern touches. The property is beautiful and very well maintained. The flowing creek was a big plus as we watched the geese, ducks, beavers and other wildlife. The hosts were very responsive and made us feel welcome.
Awesome secluded setting. Great fishing and a lot of trails for hiking. Beautiful views of the creek, nice to finish the evening by the fire pit and listen to the water ripple by while the Labrador takes an evening swim. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, grounds are very well maintained. Chrissy the caretaker was very responsive and helpful. Our family would definitely stay here again.
Although center of town was 10 minutes away, the location and scenery gave us a feeling of being secluded from the world. Beautiful, quiet location and house had plenty of private and family space. Spent evenings on the deck, enjoying the cool breezes and sound of the running water in the creek. We will be back.
This was a beautiful property, inside and out. There was enough room around the house for everything to not feel cramped. We also rented the cabin and was a great additional for our group. The acreage was well manicured, and we found many hiking spots and fishing holes to explore. Our dogs love it and had a great time as well exploring the everything. Also had a great time just sitting and talking on the porch. Thinking about when we can book again and see another season at this beautiful and peaceful property!
Beautiful, serene surroundings. Home is well equipped. My family enjoyed watching the deer pass through the property in the evening and the calming sound of the creek waters. This is the 2nd time I have rented this home and will not be the last. House was very clean, beautiful landscaping, and plenty of room for multiply families.
This was a great place to stay for our extended family weekend vacation. The house is well kept/clean and the amenities were as expected. The property was awesome! It’s secluded, but only 15 min. from town, with outdoor dining options, fire pit, trails, stream access, and large lawn flat area’s perfect for outdoor games. The kids (10-13) had a blast…and so did all the adults! Definitely recommend.
Our family was in town for a reunion and needed a place we all could fit. We didn’t get to spend a lot of time on the property because of our reunion but all of us agreed we would love to come
back and explore more of the beautiful property! We also enjoyed reading about the history of the house. It was very clean and comfortable as well!
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!
We had a very relaxing and fun time. We had six adults, ranging in age from 25 to 81. There was plenty of room. We used the kitchen and grill every day. The creek was beautiful and very clear. Town was not too far away either. Would highly recommend staying here.
Scenic and secluded, but yet Wytheville in close proximity that offered a wide range of unique boutiques and wineries for eight retired school teachers. Splendid 18th century farmhouse with accommodating and up to date amenities . Very comfortable bed and sleep arrangements provided as we
