Sweet Briar in the Vines is an original, turn of the century, renovated stone cottage- located on the Sweet Briar Vineyard- Home of O'DWYER WINES

The location is ideal - just a few minutes drive North of Clare town with the Riesling Trail passing by the entrance to the property , and picturesque country views in every direction.

The cottage is comprised of 4 bedrooms- 1 King and 3 Queen, with an annexe off one of the queens, containing 1 single bed ( + a fold out bed) suitable for children.

A country style eat-in kitchen forms the centre of this quaint yet roomy cottage which flows out on to a leafy verandah - ideal for barbequing and outdoor entertaining.

The more recently added living /dining room is very spacious with reverse cycle air conditioning and features a wood burning stove - perfect for cosy nights in, with a glass of local wine.

There are two renovated bathrooms, sympathetically restored in the period and style of the cottage..

The country style kitchen has been remodelled and comprises modern fitted kitchen cabinets , complete with dishwasher and a large modern gas cooker with 6 burners and an electric oven. Its stylish finish has all the benefits of a modern kitchen but still with a country kitchen feel.

All the comforts of home - nestled in the heart of Clare Valley wine country.

Generous breakfast provisions will be left for you to prepare at your leisure.
Enjoy breakfast in the idyllic surroundings of the outdoor dining area before heading out to explore the Valley.
On your arrival, as part of your welcome package, you will find a complimentary bottle of our own O'Dwyer wine from our vineyard.
Coffee and tea etc are also included .

Either bring your own bikes or rent some locally, & experience the beautiful Riesling Trail which passes by the entrance to the property.

Sweet Briar in the Vines is the perfect base for exploring Clare especially if your group comprises a number of couples.The property is just out of Clare and ideally located next to the Reisling Trail for ready access to everything that the Clare Valley can offer. Each bedroom is air-conditioned and the kitchen and living spaces are ideal for a relaxed break.

A lovely property that was perfect for a multi-family catch up. The garden was beautiful as was the house set in the quiet vineyards. We had everything we needed and the host was very accommodating to our requests. Will definitely be back!

Peace among the vines

We had a lovely weekend at this beautiful place. There were eight of us and plenty of places to enjoy the beautiful views from the various verandahs. A fantastic lounge and dining area for us to gather to celebrate a special birthday. The age range was 96 through to 3 years of age and the accommodation was perfect for us. It had everything we needed, I would highly recommend Sweet Briar in the Vine!

Five stars to our host Judith. Kept us in the loop over a small fire outbreak close by .. her continued contact was so re assuring for us..until the fire was under control later that night. our accommodation was brilliant.. surrounded by a vineyard…On arrival it was a very hot 🥵 day 43 degrees As soon as we opened the front door, we were welcomed by a refreshing coolness.. AC excellent I must say. The home had perfumed diffusers, and smelt wonderful. This stay is truly loved. Beautiful art work and artefacts everywhere. We appreciated the vintage and antique furniture, and decor in keeping with this 100 year old cottage. A cottage with an extension of a lounge come tv room and dining, at the back of home was a pleasant surprise. As was a welcome bottle of their own Shiraz Breakfast was supplied for our stay.. a true full English style .. much to the delight of my English husband ..The information book, was very informative. Plenty to do if you wish to do a food and wine trail .. as we did. The only thing I probably would say, I wished the outside seating area, had been dusted of cobwebs on the walls and seating. As I’m not good with spiders. Overall one of the loveliest stays in a few years. Thankyou Judith for sharing this property.

We fell in love with Sweet Briar the moment we set eyes on it!
It has been a joy to spend time here over the years and our four kids have had such fun exploring the country side on many a happy holiday in Clare.

Why they chose this property

On a family road trip around the south eastern corner of Australia shortly after our arrival here from the States, we stumbled upon Sweet Briar on an over night stay in Clare.
We didn't choose it- It chose us!
Couldn't get the cottage with its circular drive and wrap around verandas - quaint gardens and beautiful vineyard out of our minds.
A month later Sweet Briar was ours and we have enjoyed restoring and improving it ever since.

What makes this property unique

Not only was Sweet Briar an authentic piece of period architecture, being an original stone cottage with bull nose verandas , wisteria dripping from them and beautiful thick cottage walls, but this little gem was only a 5 minute drive into Clare town. All the peace and serenity of the remote country side , with the convenience of an easy drive into town.
Top that off with the famous Riesling Trail - accessed at the top of our drive and you've got it all!
Star lit skies at night are the icing on the cake!!
