Located on a beautiful white sandy beach in the quiet fishing village of Matemwe on the north east side of Zanzibar you will find Maji Lodge nestled amongst swaying palms offering breathtaking ocean views.
We offer four spacious, comfortable rooms that can accommodate up to 11 guests with en-suite bathrooms facilities, equipped kitchen, a spacious open plan common living room. All that flows out to a shady porch and our tropical beautiful garden where guest can take in cool ocean breezes from the comfort of our sun deck or plunge into the semi shaded pool with a shallow area for children.


The whole house along with all amenities together with a private beach - garden and swimming pool will be only at disposal of our guests. Price includes maid services, bath & beach towels, bed linen, 24/7 security, local phone, free WI-FI connection, games, books and some water equipment.

1. Big family room – beautiful ocean view! Up to 4 people – one king bed and two single beds all draped with a mosquito net. Featuring ceiling and standing fan, private bathroom with shower, hot water, hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, bath towels and hairdryer.

2. Triple room - up to 3 people. One double bed and one single bed all draped with a mosquito net. Featuring ceiling and standing fan, private bathroom with shower, hot water, hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, bath towels and hairdryer.

3. Double room – one double bed draped with a mosquito net. Featuring ceiling and standing fan, private bathroom with shower, hot water, hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, bath towels and hairdryer.

4. Double room – one double bed draped with a mosquito net. Featuring ceiling and standing fan, private bathroom with shower, hot water, hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, bath towels and hairdryer.

Our house is perfect for groups of friends and families. Children are most welcome! Thanks to low tides kids can play in a very shallow water with no worries of going too deep and can enjoy the ubiquitous white sands. For those seeking shaded area and fresh waters we offer a spacious swimming pool with shallow area for children. For the smallest ones we prepared a shaded playground with swings.

On extra cost we can customize your stay providing private chef, supply of food and drinks, car rental with/without driver, daily trips and sightseeing, organizing special events like family celebration, anniversary etc.

There is a House Manager to great you, take care of you, answer your needs and requests on daily basis. Most of the year we live nearby too so we will be happy to assist you in any needs you may have in person. Karibu sana! We look forward to meet you!!

Paradise

The word Paradise sums up the description for this property. The location directly on the beach is unparalleled. There are plenty of places to eat in walking distance as well as some water sports and massage places. The property manager and chef took great care of us and made sure everything was taken care of. Checkin & checkout were seemless.

Beautiful villa at Matemwe

We had mostly unfortunate weather during our stay in Matemwe, which was a shame (and please note that the rain does not enter the villa, even during heavy storms, unlike one previous reviewer's comments). But the villa is stunning, Matemwe as a location is the least spoilt and developed of all the main beaches in the north of Zanzibar, and Natalia is a wonderful host. The photos don't really do it justice. The beachfront location means that when the sun is out, the best place to be is lying on the deck just above the beach. Do visit Stone Town and especially the night market (don't bother with Prison Island). Do take a boat trip for the amazing snorkelling. And do visit a spice farm (Big Body spice farm was great).

Incredible location

The property is literally on the beach, the most incredible location , very quiet and tranquil. Swimming pool, lounger chairs overlooking the beach. You can walk along the beach, there are a few places to have lunch/ drinks within 5-10 mins. The chef is amazing and cooks the most incredible meals for you. Check in very easy and very helpful host. One point to note is the house does not have any windows , so if you are there in rainy season like we were it can get very damp and our clothes and shoes were all covered in mould as they could not air and no cupboards. The verandah is also unusable in the rain as it floods. Note the floor indoors and outdoors is very slippery and not suitable for toddlers, our little one had some very bad falls. Overall the most amazing location but just few points as mentioned to note depending on time of travel!

Paradisiaque

Très belle maison sur plage de sable blanc ! Natalia nous à donné de très bons conseils , très sympathique, elle nous a même organisé notre activité de plongée sous marine... Les personnes qui travaillent à la maison sont très avenantes ,à l'écoute, et aussi d'une très grande gentillesse.... Nous avons très bien mangé et en grande quantité.( Je conseille le barbecue !). Nous nous sommes rendu compte, que le gardien était aussi attentif à notre bien être sur la plage aussi (il est vraiment adorable). Nous avons profité des messages proposés le jour de notre arrivée, ce qui était très très agréable. Beaucoup de choses sont mises à la disposition pour notre confort ( chaussures pour la Mer, crème solaire, eau potable gratuite...). Le cadre est idyllique !!! Beaucoup d'espaces ombragés et très belle terrasse pour se reposer. La température de la piscine est agréable. Merci à tous !

5 days on the beach, with a full service on demand

We had a wonderful stay at the Maji Lodge. The location of the house is fantastic and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall, the house is well kept and offered all amenities we needed. Some parts of the house, like the sun deck or the kitchen, would deserve some renovations, though. Our entire family has greatly enjoyed the stay and we think the quality/price ratio is still very good.

Beautiful hideaway

We had a lovely time at Maji Lodge. The staff were fantastic and made the whole stay very easy. The food provided was delicious and we enjoyed many meals cooked for us at the villa. The beach setting was stunning and further places to eat and drink were a short walk away. Natalia was very helpful in the lead up, organising the airport transfers and answering the many questions we had. It was a beautiful, quiet and relaxing holiday in a lovely villa and stunning location. Thanks you to all the staff at Maji Lodge.

Awesome stay in Majilodge !!! Do not hesitate to spend there holidays in family or with friends !!!

A lovely property with lush vegetation, a superb terrace overlooking the beach and the ocean (exactly as on the picture). Beautiful, comfortable and spacious house on the beach. The 4 bedrooms are very large with their own bathroom and toilet. Large double living room, very practical kitchen, table for meals on shaded outdoor terrace. Natalia and Michal are always available to help or advise. They arrange everything for you (cleaning, food shopping, snorkling excursions, airport transfers, taxi booking, massages). Snorkling equipment, some children's beach items are available. The staff present (guard / maintenance) on the spot is discreet and efficient. Cleaning is done regularly, the house is very clean. A chef is available on request and cooks very well and adapts to your desires. Several restaurants are accessible by the beach (1 to 6 minutes walk) but beware, some do not offer any alcoholic beverages. Note that Matemwe is 60 to 90 minutes drive from the main town of Stone Town, I would not recommend Majilodge to people who want holidays with a day and night life animated (pubs, nightclub ...). And we HIGHLY recommend Natalia and Michal's house to those wishing to relax with family or friends in Zanzibar. We had a wonderful stay with friends with children in Majilodge. Many thanks to Natalia for her kindness and availability.

Private villa on stunning beach

We (4 couples) had a wonderful time in Natalia's villa in Matemwe. There are restaurants nearby on the beach if you want to order-in or eat out. The beach is stunning. Do take note that the low tide doesn't allow you to swim but you can always do a lengthy walk to the coral to watch marine life.

maison très agréable, décorée avec soin

Très belle et grande maison donnant directement sur la magnifique plage de Matemwe. Nous étions 3 familles avec 6 enfants et nous étions vraiment à l'aise, les chambres sont spacieuses avec chacune sa salle de bain privee. Tout est fait pour rendre le séjour agréable, les propriétaires sont aux petits soins et disponibles au moindre problème.
