Stayed here for accommodation the night before great ocean road Mara. Wish I didn’t have to get up and leave so early. So warm and cozy on arrival and just a lovely little unit
Excellent location and facilities. Clean, quiet, cosy and comfortable for 2 adults and two dogs. Ideal location for exploring the Otways and close to Apollo Bay.

Our overnight stay at Otway Nest was a complete nightmare. What was meant to be a peaceful getaway turned into a scene of verbal abuse and physical intimidation.
The host, Lawrance, was incredibly rude and abusive from the start. We felt physically assaulted by his behavior. The situation escalated during checkout when he refused to let us verify that we had all our belongings, preventing us from ensuring nothing was left behind. To make matters worse, he actually threw our food and bags away.
We weren't the only ones targeted. We spoke to fellow travelers staying at the property who were traumatized after Lawrance barged into their room while they were mid-change/getting dressed. This is a massive violation of privacy and safety.
Despite his aggressive behavior and the fact that he disposed of our property, Lawrance is now attempting to charge us extra fees. We have already contacted the police and filed an official report regarding the assault and the theft/destruction of our items.
We are demanding a full refund. Please, do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else. No one should ever have to experience the level of hostility and lack of safety we felt here. Stay away

This was by far the worst stay I have had in my life.
Upon arrival we found our room was not cleaned properly for a while, surfaces were either dusty or dirty with stains. The toilet was clearly not cleaned as we could tell from the leftovers in it. The whole room smelt moldy.
Hair were on the bed and in the drawers.
Corners were full of dead flies and dust.
When entering the room we wanted to leave instantly. As we arrived quite late at night and the location is a bit remote we did not have much choice but to stay for that night.
Because of the dirt we did not open our suitcases and also did not want to pot any of our belongings anywhere in the room.
We contacted the host to let him know that the room condition was not acceptable. He replied without hi or hello or sorry that "Of course. The cottage has not been used for a while, so it may have been a bit of a build-up of dust." This reply and the further communication felt like a very bad joke. The host did not pick-up our calls and was uncooperative in resolving the situation. Altough he was at home in the building next to the cottage, were we saw him sitting at his desk, he did not open the door when we tried to contact him personally and went into hiding in another corner of the house. So we decided to leave and not stay for the second booked and paid night.
When taking our things out of the room we saw rough the wiindows that he was watching us on the surveillance cameras of the property.
A refund was refused.
The Otway Nest is located in a rain forest and the drive there was stunning, we arrived and were greeted by a beautiful, modern, and full featured BnB. The heater was on, the home was warm, and small details like having our dogs bowl full of water ready for her arrival was wonderful. A couple of slight disappointments we did have with this stay was a lack of electric car charging (I had no idea I was meant to let them know my car was electric, and there could have been a charge point available if i had) We couldn't sms or call the care taker, we had to email and wait for a reply to get simple questions answered, and when i did try to run an extension cable from a power point to trickle charge my car the power switched off. It was turned back on and they asked me not to charge my car. It was pointed out that Appolo Bay had a charger, so we drove there only to find out it was hidden inside a Motel, and used for customer cars, and both charge points were currently in use. It is quite a drive to get to the stay, and heading to the next destination was stressful, we spent time in the evening trying to plan out where we could charge and how to make it work. Also security cameras were intrusive and not ideal in a private setting, they did not look where we were staying, but even going for a walk in close proximity to our unit we felt watched. We arrived and let our dog sniff around, and was told to pleas stay on our side of the property. Spoiling a possible lovely stay.

Thank you for your five star review and for sharing your thoughts about your stay at The Otway Nest.
We’re glad you enjoyed parts of your experience!
We’d like to clarify that we don’t offer full EV charging, though we can provide trickle charging if arranged in advance. We were caught off guard when the garden power point was used, as it’s not designed for car charging and ended up tripping the circuit breaker a few times, which inconvenienced other guests. We’d be happy to work with future guests to plan ahead for their charging needs—just let us know before arrival!
As for the property, a small section is marked as our private residence, and we do have a security camera there for safety. We were surprised to see you in that area despite the signage, but we’ll take this as a chance to ensure our boundaries are even clearer moving forward. We hope the rainforest setting still offered some relaxation, and we’d love to have you back with a smoother stay!
This is a lovely little boutique hideaway for a couple (with dogs if approved by the owner). Stunning scenery, peace and quiet, cosy warm and stylish interior. Excellent communication and friendliness of the host.
Our one night stay was perfect at the Otway nest. It was quiet and secluded. Beautiful gardens. Room was clean and bed was comfy. The walk in shower and the lux bath robes were great.
Laurence was a great communicator and provided good info on the area.
Recommend treating yourself to a stay at the Otway Nest 😊
Loved our one night stay at Otway Nest. Beautiful gardens, and so many birds! Comfy bed and beautiful room too. We will be back! Thanks Laurence and Kate
Lovely cute and quiet cottage with all the amenities. There were lovely free jams, cereal, milk, coffee etc. Communication with the owners were great and we had a wonderful stay. Only wished we could’ve stayed longer.

About the host
Hosted by Maddie
Laurence is an academic and journalist. I travel frequently, and have stayed in many short-term rentals around the world.
I love hosting. My home was designed and built with guests in mind, and has two separate, private, self-contained cottages for guests to stay short or long term.
Why they chose this property
We are deep in the Otways rainforest National Park, and we love the rolling hills and waterfalls, the rainforest hikes, the abundant animal and bird life, and the turbulent weather. With no artificial light for many kilometres, our home is in a 'dark sky' area, ideal for astronomy, and we have a large telescope for lunar, solar and galactic observing.
What makes this property unique
The home was architect-designed, and is a beautiful series of connected pavilions cascading across the property, surrounded by exquisite gardens. It is a joyful place to live, work and host guests.
