About this property

Shoff-Read Century Farmhouse in Clearfield Co PA

Our farmhouse was built circa 1885 and the farm has been owned and maintained by the family for over 150 years. Five generations of our family have lived on the farm, and we are now making the farmhouse available for those needing a quiet, country retreat or vacation rental for an entire family looking for a place to stay while attending a wedding, family reunion or other special occasion in the Curwensville-Clearfield area. The house is also ideal for area recreational purposes. The quiet and peaceful setting would also be attractive for those who write. The home sits on nearly 200 acres consisting of farmed fields, grazing pasture for cattle, and forested areas bordering the property.

This century farmhouse has been lovingly renovated, modernized, and furnished with mixed period antiques and current day style, yet keeping with the character of a farmhouse built in the 19th century.

Our farmhouse has 12 rooms with 2 stories for your use, consisting of 4 bedrooms upstairs (one queen, three full size beds) and one downstairs bedroom with a twin bed & a sleeper sofa with the ability to sleep up to 10 people in the home.
There are 3 full size bathrooms (2 upstairs and 1 downstairs) with all towels and linens supplied. It has a modern kitchen equipped with all appliances and cookware.

This is a lovely vacation home for those wanting a quiet, comfortable home to enjoy for relaxation or for an entire family looking for a place to have extended time together.

Our home is non-smoking. Smoking is permitted outside or on the porch but not anywhere in the home.

About the host

The farmhouse was built by my husband's great grandfather circa 1885. My husband's grandfather, mother, my husband and our children were raised on the farm and have so many wonderful memories of their lives here. We built our home on the farm property and view the pond, farmhouse, barn and buildings every day. It is a reminder of the effort and commitment made by those before us to preserve it for future generations to use and enjoy.

Why they chose this property

The farmhouse and 200 acre farm has been passed down through 6 generations. We feel so blessed to have such a rich heritage and it is our desire as a family to use, preserve and maintain it for generations to come.

What makes this property unique

The entire home is available per booking. Special family events, holidays and celebrations could be enjoyed in this spacious 12 room farmhouse. We are 30 minutes from I-80 (Clearfield exit), 40 minutes from I-99 (Tyrone exit), 1 hr from Johnstown, Indiana, Altoona and State College, 35 minutes from Rock Run ATV Park in Patton, 2 hrs from Pittsburgh, 3 hrs from Harrisburg and Lancaster and 5 hrs from New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. This is a beautiful and well equipped country farmhouse in the center of the state ready to be used and enjoyed. It offers a relaxing and peaceful setting for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Nearby summer activities include hiking, boating, fishing, golfing at nearby golf course 5 minutes away etc. Each season offers its own unique beauty and activities. Spring is a refreshing time to visit with the countryside turning green and flowering trees in bloom. Summer is a popular time for families to get together for reunions, weddings, or retreats. Fall is one of the most beautiful times to stay when the surrounding hillsides are shades of yellow, red, and orange with the fall foliage. The winter months of December, January, and February are quieter times here in the country but the farmhouse offers a cozy place for a winter get-together, writers retreat, or those wanting solitude and stillness or special times with family around the holidays.
