My stay here was exceptional. The host and a staff member were present for check in, explaining the lodgings, how to get in and out, the garbage sorting, and more. The hospitality exhibited throughout my stay here was unmatched, with plenty of snacks, drinks, and amenities provided at no charge. The home itself was well maintained and comfortable. I would absolutely stay here again!
From the moment we arrived, this was one of the best experiences our family has ever had. The owners personally met us at the property, helped us check in, gave us a tour of the home, and explained all of the amenities. They even stocked the home with groceries, which was such a thoughtful and unexpected touch after a long day of traveling. The home itself was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our family of four. It was clean, comfortable, well-equipped, and truly felt like a home away from home. The location was excellent, with easy access to everything we wanted to see and do during our stay. What really set this property apart, though, was the hospitality of the owners. They were incredibly kind, welcoming, and always quick to respond to any questions we had throughout our visit. Their genuine care for their guests made our stay even more special. We wholeheartedly recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-appointed place to stay with exceptional hosts. We would gladly stay here again on our next visit.
Wonderful hosts. Excellent location in Kyoto. Very clean home with many amenities. Comfortable beds. We traveled with our 3 adult sons. We absolutely recommend Kozo Tanaka’s guesthouse.
We loved staying here! Not in a super touristy area (complimentary), easy access to bus line, very walkable to bakery, groceries, restaurants, shops…hosts were wonderful, oriented us to their lovely and clean house, provided snacks and breakfast fixings, comfy beds, sweet little outdoor space, laundry. Can’t wait to return! Thank you!
This place was a wonderful stay for our families leg of our Japan trip in Kyoto. The accommodations are gorgeous with wonderful amenities. The place is immaculately clean and the host is an incredible gracious man. Our family loved our stay in Kyoto and a large part was the wonderful accommodations.
Tanaka-San was an extremely gracious and generous host! The house was sparkling clean and very comfortable; it was a great experience to stay in a house in a more residential neighborhood in Kyoto. The house is closer to Kinkakuji, transport to Arashiyama, and Kitano Tenmangu shrine, while a bit farther from the Gion area. Overall wonderful hospitality and we loved our stay in Kyoto!

We had a wonderful stay at this guest house in Kyoto. The hosts are a wonderful friendly couple who communicated with us continually a couple days before check in & throughout our stay. Upon arrival the home was very clean & orderly. It was well stocked with plenty of towels & toilet paper. It was also equipped with a hair dryer & toiletries such as extra toothbrushes, shampoo & body wash just in case. The hosts also provided many food items for the fridge such as eggs, water, yogurt & butter, as well as some bread & snacks to get us started for our stay. My family loved the accommodation & we would definitely stay here again if we revisit Kyoto.
My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our at Mr Tanaka-san’s property. There was only two of us, so we were spoilt for space. We slept in the western-style bedroom, which was very comfortable. The outdoor bath is wonderful and very private. The traditional decor is delightful. Staying here was the highlight of our three-week trip. The house has a lovely retro character. It was a pleasure to stay within a Kyoto neighbourhood with Japanese neighbours. The area is very quiet and well-connected by bus for Kyoto city centre, Kinkaku-ji Temple, and tram to Arishiyama as well as other nearby shrines and temples. There is a supermarket and a variety of restaurants nearby.Mr Tanaka-san was a fantastic host. He provided a warm welcome and took time to inform us of nearby amenities. There is information in the house in a range of languages, including English.Mr Tanaka-san kindly provided us with a plentiful supply of hot and cold drinks, snacks and breakfast items free of charge. In fact, we were unable to eat everything in the four days we were at the house! There is equipment and supplies readily available for cooking. This was very welcome as it meant we did not have to immediately go to the supermarket for groceries, nor did we have to buy items such as cooking oil for our short stay. All in all, I would have happily stayed in Mr Tanaka-san’s house for many days longer, and I would happily return for future stays in Kyoto. Arigato gozaimasu, Mr Tanaka-san!
Tanaka-san was the most wholesome host! He gave us a tour of the location and made sure we were settled in and had everything we needed. He gave us some excellent local recommendations, the property is well located for viewing local shrines and temples. Wonderful place to stay with everything thought of--I especially enjoyed the snacks and drinks that were available. We would definitely stay again!
Had an absolutely lovely stay at this home. Mr Tanaka welcomed us warmly and provided us with every amenity you can think of, including delicious snacks and breakfast foods. We loved the sweet neighborhood, away from the tourist scrum. There are buses and trains to major tourist attractions that are convenient. Altogether very fun to stay in a traditional style home.
Nice single house in Kyoto. We are a family of 5 and found ourselves very comfortable in this property. This house represents the world-famous Japanese detail-oriented style. The house is very well maintained and has everything you need for your stay. The check-in with a real person on every single detail is rare, but a good experience. We did feel welcomed when handed over iced Japanese green tea and sweets while arriving.
The hosts were AMAZING they met us at check in to make sure we knew how to turn on things like the air conditioner. They left us some snacks and food for breakfast! It was close to the bus stop so it was easy to get to. Perfect for our large family with enough room for 7 adults. We loved staying here.
We absolutely loved our stay in Kyoto! Mr. Tenaka was a wonderful host. Unfortunately our flight was delayed a few hours and we didn’t get to the Vrbo until almost 11PM, but he was there to greet us anyway and show us his beautiful property. He recommended many places for us to visit/eat and was always available for questions. The property was gorgeous and immaculately clean. We would love to stay here again if we’re in Kyoto!

We are a family of seven adults and this accommodation was perfect for us. We were greeted and showed through the house. Refreshments were provided while we filled out the paperwork. For us, this was an amazing taste of traditional living with modern appliances. We just loved the area and people were friendly. Local tram to bamboo forest was close. Lots of tourist attractions nearby. Bus trips were easy through google maps. Local karaoke, pool table, darts, local hidden bars that overlooked Kyoto (even Kyoto tower). But you need to find this yourself :) We were very spoilt with a couple of days where the cleaner visited and free necessities. Thank you Kozo Tanaka San for an unforgettable holiday.

Kozo-san is an excellent host
Kozo-san is an excellent host. When we arrived he walked us through the amenities of the house. The house itself was cozy and spacious enough for the 4 of us. Location wise it is on a quiet road, near many cafes and historical landmarks. It also close to bus and train stations, so seeing the farther away sites was easy and manageable. Thank you, Kozo-san.
Kozo-san was a wonderful, gracious host. He met us at the property and went over everything in detail. He answered emails promptly and even helped get us dinner reservations. The house itself is lovely, comfortable, air-conditioned and blissfully quiet, yet conveniently located. The five of us were quite comfortable, but I would hesitate to try to fit a larger group.
This is the best place we've stayed at internationally .Our experience here was absolutely amazing due to the amazing hosts and the lovely home.Kozo and Cheika went above and beyond with their hospitality: they met us, served us tea and snacks, offered us a fridge with food and then came back to refill snacks, and tidy our place part way through our stay. We had to contact them directly through email versus the platform and they were very prompt in answering our questions. We couldn't believe how fortunate we were in staying here: the spa- like outdoor tub (and indoor heat tub), the large rooms, and the tradtional furniture really made it feel like we were in Japan and being treated to a more authentic experience. We were a 2min walk from the bus stop and restaurants and about 5 mins from the train station and shopping mall.We would recommend Kozo's place to anyone travelling to Kyoto.
What a great perfect place for a family or group to stay. The host is super friendly and welcomes you into their place and shows you how everything works. The host really made our trip to Kyoto more enjoyable!
The house is well equipped and the AC worked which was important for us during the summer heat wave. It is also a 2 min walk from a handy bus stop, a 20 min walk to Kinkakuji and a convenience store is close by. Also an amazing cafe called Latte Art junkies should not be missed. Laundry is on site and clothes are hung outside to dry. If you want to feel like you’re in Japan this is the place. PS the tub in the back is amazing!
kozo inn is a hidden jewel and an authentic japanese ryokan
Our stay in kozo inn with the most hospitable hosts was the highlight of our trip in kyoto.
The inn had complimentary snacks and drinks, which we very much appreciate. It was also very clean and had the authentic feel of a japanese inn. We appreciate the complimentary new house slippers and towels.
Having both a tatami room with 2 futons and a western room with 2 western beds were very good.
The kitchen was equipped with all the necessary utensils to be able to prepare and eat breakfasts there. It is within a walking distance to a Fresco and Izumiya Grocery and several other konbinis. There are several bus stops that goes all the way to kyoto station.
There are also several restaurants nearby which makes it very convenient to find a place to eat.
If we ever go back to Kyoto, we would like to definitely stay here again.
