About this property
Hardwood House - Award Winning Architectural Home - Walking distance to Botanic Gardens!
There is something dramatic about Hardwood House, captivating like a baroque painting. Designed by award-winning architect Adam Kane, the home expertly balances an old world aesthetic with a cool, contemporary feel. Hardwood House is made almost entirely of locally sourced timber, crafted to achieve a singular aesthetic that blends the warm comforts of home with its own unique flavour. Each window frames a very specific view of the garden, ensuring a connection to the outdoors, and a feeling of seclusion and sanctuary.
The recently reimagined interior was styled by Melissa Macfarlane from Kabinett, Kyneton, working closely with the owner to curate a new mood. Her talent for bringing together a blend of old and new, found and designed, and mixing of eras—and the owners' passion for contemporary Australian art—have created a beautifully balanced and unique space where luxurious minimalism meets broody individualism.
The living and dining area provides a warm space to nestle in during the winter months, while large sliding doors open out onto an enchanting covered deck to bring in warm weather breezes or to sit out in and enjoy a Negroni before dinner in the summer. A beautifully crafted and equipped kitchen is bliss for a keen chef or a perfect place to prepare a light snack. Loads of cupboard space, a large Smeg cooker and Miele dishwasher, together with a hidden European laundry, complete the kitchen setup.
The home’s bedrooms are spacious and tastefully furnished. Both are en-suited, one that boasts a large, deep bath, perfect for relaxation. All rooms feature flexible bedding to suit couples, singles, or people traveling with children. The master bedroom features its own private deck, perfect for a morning coffee and for reading the paper. The home's sturdy construction and thorough insulation go well with the central heating and split-system cooling, ensuring an ideal temperature year-round.
An emotive timber style chalet nestled next to the Botanical Gardens high on Wombat Hill, guests will have views of Daylesford and the surrounding Wombat State Forest—and the convenience of a short walk to Daylesford’s bustling main street, with plenty to explore and enjoy.
Please note that the both beds can split from a King to 2 x King Singles.

The house is an ideal, cosy, moody l, architecturally designed getaway in Daylesford. It is in an ideal location with a short walk to the Main Street, botanic gardens and lake. It is a beautiful place to stay.
The one major oversight to the house is the aesthetically consistent solid timber board internal doors that offer no acoustic privacy between the main bathroom and the living room. This means there is only one private toilet in the main bedroom ensuite.
If they fixed the doors I would stay again without hesitation
