About this property

Wivenhoe Hill off-grid eco Somerset retreat

Our 100% off-grid eco-retreat is a great place to unwind & relax. Hidden above the Wivenhoe Dam Spillway our eco-cottage offers no neighbours, amazing rural views and stunning starry skies. Only 1 hour from the Brisbane CBD and 20 minutes to Lake Somerset. Dog friendly. Experience music, games, reading, and tranquillity near dams, rivers, walks, trails and little country markets. Simplify a stay away - declutter and unwind.
Simplify a stay away, declutter and unwind. Reconnect with your family or even yourself and do something a little bit different, and something a little kinder for the planet.

This is a beautiful part of the world. Please be aware though we do get some traffic backgtound noise on occasion as the property backs onto main local thoroughfare. It is super quiet most of the time.

Experience what state of the art battery storage and off-grid solar can do. We have a 5,000 gallon rainwater tank, and gas for the stove and BBQ. Automatic eco compostable toilet which is a normal toilet experience - just no flushing! Separate modern and spacious bathroom (shower only). And for the daring - an outdoor hot water shower.

Two car accommodation under the house, plus loads of room for your boat, trailer, van or horse float on the property.

Your dogs are welcome, just note it's a rural property with barb wire fencing. Snakes may be on the property. No pets on furniture or the beds. We love our dog and want people to bring theirs. Please clean up after them.
Expansive wraparound deck, enjoy the breeze, sunset or starry nights from the outdoors or just relax on the hammocks. For the cooler months (or even the warmer ones) we have a large fire pit and outdoor sitting area made from large sandstone blocks.

Enjoy open plan living that is bright and airy with lots of windows to enjoy the breeze. No air-con or ceiling fans, free standing Vornado fans (eco air circulators) and the beautiful breeze atop the hill keeps you cool.

The well equipped modern kitchen has a gas burner stove and a modern oven. To support our eco ethos, kettle and toaster are stovetop and there is no dishwasher or microwave. Tea, coffee and basic cooking supplies are happily provided. Lots of tea towels for good old fashioned washing up = fun :). Fresh herbs are available for your use.

Two queen bedrooms and a comfy sofa couch (koala brand, queen size) in the lounge. While it sleeps six please be mindful it’s a small cottage, best suited for couples or small families with older children. Good quality linen and new beds, pillows and mattresses help with a good nights sleep.

The deck has a BBQ and an outdoor dining table. The hammocks are a great place to chill, read a book or stargaze.

Without compromising your stay, we do ask you to be conscious of water/power usage. We are strictly no parties/schoolies. Please bring your own beach towels if swimming in the dams.

It’s a lovely spacious 2 bedroom house. Good utensils in the kitchen. Plenty of wood and kindling to have a fire. No heater. Bed linen is warm.

Relaxing getaway
Highly recommended. Our dog loved running around the large yard. House was bigger than what we expected. No TV was fantastic, a brilliant selection of family games to play and reconnect with each other. There is a little road noise during the day but it certainly didn't bother us.

Stay at Wivenhoe Hill
We had an excellent couple of days away staying at Wivenhoe. Thoroughly enjoyed our off grid experience. Escape from the big screen with lots of board and card games provided as an alternative. Pantry well stocked and all the essentials supplied, with a couple of thoughtful extras including a lovely bottle of wine which we enjoyed on the deck. Good location for exploring the Wivenhoe and Sumerset area of QLD.
