My reservation was canceled by the host without a legitimate explanation after it had already been confirmed and I had arrived at the home. The timing and lack of any valid reason were extremely concerning. For further context, I booked the reservation for 3 guests (the stated maximum was 4) and my family and I decided to walk my nieces and nephew to the home to ensure their safety in a new environment. The host looked through the window and acted like he wasn’t home. After a couple more gentle knocks, he came to the door with a nasty attitude (questioning who I was after we text 10 minutes prior). He accused of all attempting to stay at the home despite me stating it was 4 guest instead of 3. His responses were rude, disrespectful and accusatory. Based on the interaction and circumstances, the cancellation felt discriminatory and left me feeling unwelcome and targeted.I followed all platform rules, communicated respectfully, and did nothing to warrant a cancellation - you can tell from all the positive reviews from other hosts. This experience was upsetting and unprofessional, and I would urge VRBO to look more closely at situations like this. Travelers should be aware that bookings may not be honored fairly and that they may encounter a nasty and discriminatory interaction.
