Birch Breeze Bungalow at Indian Lake (#9) is the third property at our Indian Lake destination. This quaint log cabin with varnished log walls and ceiling is great for a small family getaway. Sleeping 2 adults + 3 kids in a studio-style cabin, the one big open space will suit all your needs. A fully-equipped kitchen, full bathroom, and living space with television (cable), and the screened-in porch is just what you need after an afternoon at the beach. The shared beach is footsteps from your door.
There are cottages within earshot, as this was once the Mountain Ash Resort, a historic spot for many years. The shoreline is slightly rocky for first 1 foot of entrance, so it isn't easy (though not impossible) to hop into the water directly in front of the cabin. The lake itself is a sandy bottom lake, but the lining of limestone rocks can be tricky to navigate for small swimmers. Due to the rocks, swim shoes are suggested. In addition, Lake Michigan beaches are minutes away.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Air Conditioning: No air conditioning. However, there are a couple of fans and an added ceiling fan for guests to use.
ATV's: No ATV's
Animals: Deer, squirrels, racoon, variety of birds.
Bathroom: Full bathroom with shower.
Beach/Swimming: The sandy swimming beach area is in front of the cabin, with a convenient pavilion and community grilling area. Cabin #9 is set back with no cabins in front view.
Bedroom Configuration: It is one open space (think-studio- open concept) Featuring a full/double size daybed with a twin trundle underneath. In addition, the tufted leather couch also folds down into a double bed. Also, there are curtains available to make daybed area private.
Boats: No boats come with this home, but feel free to bring your canoes, paddleboards, and kayaks.
Bugs: typical U.P. Michigan bugs (mosquitos, black flies)
Cell phone service: Good! There is also 2 touch lamps that provide charging ports for your cell phone.
Dock: No dock, but feel free to grab your kayaks and go!
Drinking Water: It is artesian well water. Some guests may choose to bring bottled water for drinking.
Drugs/Smoking/Fireworks: Freshwater does not permit illegal drugs of any kind on the property. Due to the location of the properties, smoking is strongly discouraged around the home and strictly prohibited in the home. Fireworks are prohibited at a Freshwater location for the safety of all persons in and around the property, even if it is legal in that city.
Fire-pit: YES! Enjoy a view of Indian Lake as you sit by the fire.
Fishing: Some common fish you will see in the nearby lake are perch, bass, walleye. Please be sure to bring your own poles as there are none at this property. Also, in order to fish in Michigan lakes, one is required to hold a fishing license.
Grill: There is a small charcoal grill at the property. There is also a grilling rack over the firepit and a very big grill at the community pavilion near by.
Closest Grocery Store: Jack's Fresh Market
Handicap Friendly: Let us explain what we mean by handicap friendly…there is a zero-1 step entry into this home, and it is one level (a ranch-style home). The bathrooms and hallways are not up to official handicap standards and do not come equipped with special apparatus to help those in need.
Heat: There are 2 electric heaters at the property if needed
Internet: Yes! WiFi is available at the property!
Linens: Yes, we provide your sheets and linens. Just like a hotel, the beds will be made for you upon arrival. If you are fussy about the thread count of your sheets, just let me know, and I'll make sure we leave a bed open for your sheets. We have just the basic sheets, pillows, pillow cases and bath towels.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Big Springs "Kich-iti-kipi": Michigan's largest freshwater spring. Two hundred feet across, and 40-feet deep. Over 10,000 gallons a minute gush from fissures in the underlying limestone at a constant 45 degree Fahrenheit. By means of a self-operated observation raft, visitors are guided to vantage points overlooking fascinating underwater features and fantasies. Ancient tree trunks, lime-encrusted branches and fat trout appear suspended in nothingness as they slip through crystal waters far below. Clouds of sand kept in constant motion by gushing waters create ever-changing shapes and forms, a challenge to the imagination of young and old alike.
Indian Lake Golf Course: A very popular, 18 hole golf course along Indian Lake. Just 5 miles from the Cabin.
The Kewadin Casino: It is approximately 10 minutes (7 miles) from the Lodge.
Flatiron Brewery: Located at Traders Point along the scenic Lake Michigan waterfront, Flatiron Brewery occupies a newly renovated warehouse and recreation center. Fresh Detroit style pizza, pasta and wings are made fresh daily from scratch and taps are always rotating with new and old favorites!
Historic Manistique Water Tower : The Old Water Tower is one of the many historic sites in Schoolcraft County. Built in 1923 and constructed in the “Roman revival” style, it is also listed in the national register. The renovated building will provide space for arts related public events and public rest room facilities while preserving one of Manistique's unique and historic buildings.
Fayette State Park & Historic Townsite: Fayette was once one of the Upper Peninsula's most productive iron-smelting operations. Located on the Garden Peninsula at Snail Shell Harbor. When the charcoal iron market began to decline, the Jackson Iron Company closed its Fayette smelting operation in 1891. It is now a completely restored village including 22 historic buildings, museum exhibits and the visitor center, which can be toured May through October. The historic site is located in Fayette State Park.
*Mackinac Bridge- approximately 1 hour away.
*Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore- approximately 1 hour away.
*Tahquamenon Falls State Park- approximately 2 hours away.
Parking: There is enough room for 2 cars at the property.
Pets: I'm sorry, yet due to safety concerns, we will no longer be able to welcome pets of guests to any of the cabins at the Mountain Ash Association. The only way to have a pet with the Mountain Ash Association is to purchase a cottage. Owners are allowed to have pets, yet guests are not. My apologies for this inconsistency, yet it is a part of the association by-laws.
Play area: There is a small children's play area with plenty of room for outdoor children's games across from the community grilling area.
Privacy: There are cabins right next door.
Seniors: Come one, come all! This space is great for those over 60. Sometimes when renting a home, you are never too sure about the terrain: is the home on top of a hill, is parking on a steep slope, are there 100 steps to the beach or the unit, etc. This home gets the FVR approval for the young at heart!
Shopping: The charming downtown Manistique offers cute/artsy shops, as well as a couple wineries and yummy restaurants/bars close by.
Space: Studio space/ open concept
Televisions: 1 TV with cable
Towels: Yes, we provide towels. It's always good to bring extra though.
Washer and dryer: No washer/dryer
Wood: Please bring your own firewood.
