About this property

The Farmhouse On Church

This warm, spacious and very comfortable farmhouse was built in 1920 on a property located in nearby Bidwell’s Cutting. This home is typical of farmhouses being built at that time and is crafted with sturdy local Timbers which have stood the test of time. The home was occupied by the Chappell family, and Mr Chappell worked for many, many years in service to the owners of that farm in Bidwells Cutting. Upon Mr Chappell’s retirement the home was gifted to Mr Chappell as a ‘thank you’ for his many years of loyal service. It was arranged that the home would be relocated to the section at 6 Church Street in 1984 so that Mr Chappell could enjoy his retirement in the heart of the Greytown village.



We learned this story of true generosity when we purchased the property in 2014. This we believe is a wonderful act of kindness and one we felt is well worth sharing.



Since 2014 we have slowly worked away to lighten up the interior and create a really warm, bright and homely feel in ‘The Farmhouse’ with large airy spaces and lots of sunshine. The small garden that wraps around the house creates beautiful summer shade and attracts plenty of the local native bird life.

Great location. Comfortable house with lovely outdoor space. Perfect for a small family to use as a base for exploring Greytown and the surrounding area. Some of the furniture could be updated -- a bit old and uncomfortable -- but we did find the main bed to be quite comfortable.

Great location in easy walking distance to main street. Nicely styled house and comfy beds. Would be helpful to have panel heaters or heating options for the bedroom end of the house but living area is easy to heat

The home was incredibly cold, 9 degs when we arrived. I was sad that an effort to warm it before we arrived was not done. The bedrooms (which cant be heated by main heat pump in the lounge) were about 2degs!! There was one duvet on the bed and no further blankets for the room. The 2nd bedroom had two extra blankets of which we had to take one. That room remained 2 degs throughout the stay for the couple in there…. The little bar heater found in the main bedroom was turned on however was not safe to leave whilst out or overnight. There was no instruction book, took forever to find the heat pump controller. Then the tv instructions, written on a tiny scrap of paper were tucked out of sight. Dated bathroom with the shower head that would remain up. Bed squeaked every time you rolled over, felt like you were about to break it. Shed key on table, no instructions where the shed were. So no wasnt impressed really. For the money there was only one small carton of milk, no option for drinks for non tea or coffee drinkers So no I wont return or recommend as value for money was very poor.

We loved our stay at Taylor's Homestead. It was such a home away from home with comfortable furniture. It was lovely being able to light a fireplace at night to keep warm. In the kitchen there was everything we needed to cook. We loved the feel of the place. If we are wanting to stay in Greytown again we would certainly go back there. Thanks so much.
