University student retreat
We brought a diverse group of university students to this Big Bear property for a spring break retreat. The layout—with multiple cabins—was ideal for separating lodging by gender, and the central area served well for group activities. The grounds were beautiful, and students enjoyed features like the koi pond, fire pits, and walking paths. However, a few issues affected our experience. One cabin was still being cleaned upon arrival, delaying move-in. Once settled, we received reports of stained bedding and areas that didn’t appear thoroughly cleaned. While we addressed these as best we could, they were disappointing. We had planned a s’mores night, but after coordinating and purchasing supplies, we were told the fire pits were unusable due to a gas leak. We improvised with a grill, but it wasn’t the experience we hoped for.On the final morning, an unannounced group of men—presumably maintenance—were walking the property. This caused concern, especially with female-only cabins. The property managers were unaware and only responded after 45 minutes. Additionally, a delivery person wandered into a cabin unannounced. While the property suited our logistical needs, these issues impacted our group's overall comfort and experience. We hope future guests receive clearer communication and a higher standard of cleanliness and safety.
