Nice large, freindly hotel. Our room was comfortable and clean and the receptionist bubbly and friendly. Breakfast was expensive and the dinner restaurant menu unimaginative. Fortunately there was a very nice pub close by. Sad to hear that the hotel will be closing shortly.
The peacefulness of the hotel settings and the combination of attentive, helpful and friendly staff all contributed to assisting us in having an enjoyable stay. I have no hesitation of recommending this establishment to friends and family as I was most satisfied with our stay.
Ok. We seemed to be the youngest guests as all others were about 80. The hotel lobby areas are older but clean. The restaurant was deserted on a Saturday night... Not a great recommendation. Our room was small but ok, but the bathroom was not as clean as I would expect.

The staff at this hotel make it a lovely place to stay, I was only there one night but I had a lovely night and the food was amazing, I didn't realise roast chicken and chips could taste so good, so after that I had to have an afters which I wouldn't normally do!

Comfortable Hotel
I booked this hotel because of the price and also because it had free parking. The room was very comfortable, and it felt more like a bedroom then a hotel room (which I loved). I stayed in the "wee classic" which was perfect because I was traveling alone. The staff was very friendly, and the food in the restaurant was tasty. It's an older property, so the floors creak and the doors stick, but for the price, you can't beat this hotel.
Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent bar & restaurant facilities (great breakfast) & comfortable room. Our room was a little 'tired' but we understand refurbishment is planned for the near future. Great location & handy for buses into the city.
The rooms were in need of upgrade, not sure if this was on going as corridor walls were back to base plaster. Externally the hotel is beautiful, just needs a bit of LTC internally. Staff were excellent.
Hotel looked good on picture, far from that when got there. Room I had needed updating badly repaired ceiling floor was all marked. Corridor to the bedroom carpet needed changing marks all over it. Just felt upkeep of what could be a nice place was poor.
The outside of the hotel is lovely and expectations were high. Unfortunately our room was filthy - stained carpet, dirty bath, wallpaper hanging off, stained walls under window - so we requested a move. Luckily another room was available and this was much better. Staff member on duty was very accommodating and polite and the whole thing was handled well, but considering the price of the night's stay it was extremely disappointing. Apparently the hotel is due for refurbishment this winter (2014).
Arrived 2.30pm and was told our room wasn't ready, we went to the bar and my partner attempted to order "afternoon tea" - the barman's response was "I'm busy". Eventually I managed to order it, stale bread and cakes given to us on a tray with no plates and no cutlery. Rude bad tempered staff who looked like they hated their jobs. Eventually our room was ready at 4.30pm!!! Highlights of the room were - bathroom door handle hanging off, holes in the wall, mouldy wall paper and peeling wall paper. Climate control listed on room description but not present. Half of the ceiling lights not working due to bulbs blown. The desk had a light also not working where also the shade was falling off it. The following morning we went down for our 'included' breakfast, we stood waiting to be given a table as once again service was almost non existent. Overall I felt insulted and offended by the room provided and the overall state of the hotel and their attitude towards their customers. Upon checkout we were not thanked for our custom or asked if we had enjoyed our stay.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms comfortable. Could do with more plug sockets for charging mobiles etc. Wifi not so good in room but ok in bar/lounge area. Nice garden for sitting and drinking in.
Over priced. Carpet had a hole and was threadbare. Shower curtain was mouldy and the bath was stained badly.window frames and light fittings were very dusty.beds were creaky.room 250.
The hotel was very nice and the staff friendly and helpful, our room was lovely the only disappointing this was that the bathroom although big and with a bath needed updating.
Breakfast was very good
This hotel is overpriced. The rooms are overpriced. It costs too much for such a poorly maintained room.

Room was cold and remained so despite a request to reception to have heating turned on. TV reception was poor and apparently had been poor for some time!! Considering its star rating the room was not really up to standard. DISAPPOINTED, overpriced.
