Jungle Surprise!
Booked a 2-storey villa, with bedroom/bath on top and pool/kitchen below. Villa overlook a ravine and first impression was good. Had trouble locking the door and gate. We drove up in a car and had problem entering as access is via a narrow strip of road over rice field and drains. Villa is not in Ubud and took us 15 mins by car to get there for lunch. Not possible to walk to Ubud town although hotel has free shuttle on a limited schedule.
We didn't feel safe driving at night so decided to retire early to enjoy the villa in the later afternoon. But pool was too cold for swim or dip in this season. Perhaps the idea of pool villa is best enjoyed in the dry season with plenty of sunshine.
As the sun sets we tried to cook dinner in the kitchen. That's when the adventure starts with hoards of flying insects invading the open space. In the end we had to retreat to the relative safety of the bedroom and settle for cup noodles for dinner. After dinner I tried to fetch bottled water from the fridge below but the stairs was covered with insects and lizards. Luckily the air-con works fine to keep room cool but strange sounds from unknown creatures prevent a good night sleep. Tried to use the pool the next morning just to find the pool surface littered with insects. Water pressure for the shower was low and water temperature too low to enjoy the bathtub when finally filled-up with lukewarm water.
Breakfast in the restaurant was about average and that about sums up our experience here.
