Good location for town centre, and friendly reception but small, cramped room with dated and tired decor, the ensuite was well past its best before date and the single bed was very uncomfortable. I would not stay again unless desperate.
Cheap and cheerful only downside was my room was above the local taxi rank and with sash windows was a bit rowdy at 2 am kick out time. Staff are friendly and location is good for local nightlife if that’s your thing.
Didn't even stay the night took one look and went to another hotel

Disliked: Room comfort
It would have been nice to be warned that the taxi rank is outside and at 2.30am I would be woken up by screaming and shouting that lasted for about 40 minutes! Don't stop here unless you're going to go clubbing!!
Room was clean but cold, very dated with a tiny TV , the sink's drain bubbled presumably when the other rooms used their sink ,it's next to a taxi rank so there were people outside shouting and laughing until 3am during the week. shared bathroom's show was antique.there was no wifi in the rooms i would say in suitable for business stops ... probably alright for someone to sleep after beeing out on the town but the staff seemed friendly enough
I was given a room no bigger than a cupboard, it was grim, looked like a 1970’s time warp. Shower was horrible with plastic shower curtain, limescale caked on the shower tray and grotty towels that looked liked they must have been at least 20 years old. Room lock was dodgy, very dangerous if there was a fire whilst you were in the room. There is a takeaway opposite and the smells seep into the room.
On the plus side the staff can’t do enough for you.

Overnight stopover
The outside of the hotel is going through a upgrade,I hope they then start on the rooms, the room I had although clean was very dated and in need of a revamp, other than that I would stay again.

Value for money stay
Clean and tidy, simple hotel. Good friendly staff, room a little dated but ok. Very good breakfast.
I had a 3 night stay and found that this was excellent value for the money paid - The host Alex was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. The location is very convenient for the centre of the town.

Good place to stay right in the centre
Owners are great people, very friendly and helpful. Needed a place to stay overnight whilst on business trip and hotel couldn't have been more convenient being right in the centre. Room was absolutely fine for my needs and spotless. Had a great nights sleep (best I've slept in a year). Recommended!
This was the first time to pontefract, it was for a friend's funeral quite a few of us stayed the hotelier Alex was very accomadating and friendly would highly recommend it close to everything too

The staff were lovely, they need to sort out front door keys for late night entry.
I am sure they will get around to modernising the upstairs as well as they have done downstairs.
Great shower.
Bar needs real ale

Ask about the disco before booking
The Barley Mow was OK - nothing outstanding but then it was cheap. Welcome was OK, Breakfast was good, kettle worked but there was a shortage of things to make with it (and few extra available when asked), TV worked on some channels, Bathroom was tiny and you could not use the toilet without banging your legs against the wall. I didn't get any of the rooms pictured on the website (perhaps they are modernising in stages). Biggest problem tho' was the disco which is run on Friday and Saturday nights from 10pm to 2am which isn't noted on the website.
