Wonderful historical hotel - very comfortable rooms and perfect location close to shops and restaurants The restaurant at the hotel was excellent - we shared a steak that was perfectly cooked!
Lovely historic railway hotel in Alpine, Tx.
Bit of a drive to Big Bend, but balanced by small town having enough life to offer variety for a short stay. Fort Davies park is a bit closer.
Expect a locomotive wake up call as Amtrak stop is literally across the street.
Very nice hotel!! Keep in mind you are off the Main Street in Alpine, and train tracks are nearby. It was rather noisy, and though the cleaners were very nice, they would listen to music so loud while cleaning adjacent rooms. I'd stay here again though.
This hotel is wonderful and full of character. It was our honeymoon so they gave us pink fizz in the room as a surprise and a beautiful creme brulee. The building is beautiful as is the town and the staff were completely fantastic, friendly and helpful.
The hotel is a beautifully historic building built in 1928. Original items were kept very nicely. Staff was so nice too. Bed and sheets were very clean. Bathroom tub needed some mending and upgrades. Room did not look like in the photos that are posted.
The town alpine has literally little to nothing to do. Only fast food restaurants are around for those to eat and the great attraction to the town is big bend which is over an hour away from the hotel. I wish this town would built other entertainment areas in the town to increase an interest to younger couples who mainly want to be outside and not stuck in a hotel room.

Niente toast, solo qualche biscotto e caffé
veramente scarso
While we had a bit of a hitch the first day/night, the staff (Nicole and Gill) were extremely helpful and got our situation settled right away. When we did get into the actual hotel (instead of the "guest houses," which the Holland Hotel doesn't own, but does manage), we were really impressed with the quality of the room. A beautiful view in a nice, old building. But more than anything else, we were impressed by the hospitality and caliber of the staff. An excellent hotel -- we'll definitely plan a trip back.
We stayed one night in the loft building and found the room to be comfortable, especially the bed. The bathroom needs updating and the room carpet should be replaced. The continental breakfast was perfect. Staff was very friendly and courteous.
Made a trip to Alpine for the weekend, if you like historical hotels that are quaint have excellent and friendly staff with lots of atmosphere you will enjoy this hotel. If you are a sound sleeper and don't mind trains passing in the night blowing their whistles, which we didn't mind, then this hotel will suit your fancy. They do provide ear plugs if noise from the trains interrupt your sleep. I would stay here again.
Everything about the recent redo of this historic hotel is just perfect.

Great vibes!
Beautiful old hotel and the lobby, with roaring fire, was warm and inviting. Rooms were small and noisy. Counterintuitively, get a room facing the alley, not the street. Our room faced the railroad station which is about 100 feet away. With 4 trains rolling thru every night, even the provided ear plugs didn't blunt the noise

Not bad for West Texas
Made reservations 50 minutes before arrival, and they rented the room I reaerved to walk-ins before I arrived. So, they gave me an apartment in the Wright Bulding behind the hotel. Spacious and well apportioned, more than I needed. The room was cold and not quite as clean as I would have liked. There is a bar, Railroad Blues, two blocks North of the hotel which is well known in the area. Hotel served a very good breakfast which was included...
I feel comfort ,, but no staff at night ,, no one in front desk after 10 :00 pm just
If need any help ,,, no hot water after hours ,,
The front desk and manager very nice ,,
The lobby area was inaccessible due to cleaning for upcoming Artwalk weekend. And although the trains are "charming"....even the earplugs did not completely erase the sound. The bar has plenty of Big Bend Brewing Company beers on tap.

check-in problems
we had been driving all day and arrived after 9. the reception desk was closed with a note that keys were to be found in envelopes. ours was not there so we had to call a manager. turns out though we had prepaid through expedia for the right nights (and had the confirmation), they had accidentally booked us for two other nights instead. then though we had reserved a king size bed/ room in the hotel, they only had left a "suite" in an annex building across the alley with a two double-beds. on top of all of that, because the check-in took so long, by the time we had finished, all of the local restaurants had closed, leaving us with no place to get dinner.
the place was clean and the main hotel lobby seemed fine but we were unimpressed with the service and organization.
Loved the room and charm of the hotel! Breakfast was better than average!! Trains are a bit noisy, but I'll be back. Also excellent dining and fun shops in walking distance from hotel.

Attractive Restored Historic Hotel
The location of the hotel is centrally located for a person without a vehicle. Nicely restored common areas and well furnished with period furniture. The courtyard is very pleasant place to rest during a warm afternoon. Sleep is not in the cards with four freight trains rumbling through across the street from the hotel during the night. The engineers seem to thrive on multiple blast of the horn. The staff were all very friendly!

Great option in Alpine near train station
This is not a modern cookie-cutter hotel but an older building, which furthermore faces the street and the active rail line. You therefore get some noise form adjacent rooms and in particular from outside, if you face the front. The hotel thoughtfully provides earplugs. But the lobby is great, the rooms comfortable, the WiFi is very good, the continental breakfast is opulent (with delicious baked goods from a local bakery), and the staff is very friendly. A good basis for Amtrak passengers (walking distance to station) wanting to see Marfa and/or Big Bend.
