Comfortable stay at really great price

Read a lot of bad reviews initially and had a lot of reservation about booking. But because of the price that it offered (was definitely one of the cheapest stay in Banff National Park!), I stayed for only 1 night at Douglas Fir and the reception desk was very informative. A pity breakfast wasn’t provided. had booked the room that came with a queen bed and a futon bed. The room was clean and spacious but the furnishings were a little old. The toilet was surprisingly clean and looked like they have renovated the toilet. There was hot water and the air con was nice. I noticed that there’s a bbq pit outside but i didn’t use it. A fully useable kitchen was also provided but wasn’t used. Had a very good night rest here and would recommend to others too.

unpleasant stay

We stayed 3 nights at Douglas fir. upon check-in, the stove was not working, maintenance had to change the burners. On the 2nd day, the aircon was faulty and dripping water, maintenance had to repair the aircon. On the last day, housekeeping had only made up one bed while the other bed had no bedsheets or the top linens. We found the dirty linens for that bed in the corner of the room. We phoned front desk to rectify this issue, but as housekeeping had left for the day, the front desk personnel had to rectify it instead. The front desk personnel keep saying he has no idea how to make up a bed and accused us of requesting a discount/refund. He was not apologetic in his actions saying it was the housekeeping fault. overall it was an unpleasant stay at Douglas fir and we will not recommend staying here.

We enjoyed our stay and the fact that there are waterslides and a play zone for the kids is great. The kids and adults really enjoyed the waterslides. The outdoor hot tub was also really enjoyable. We booked a one bedroom loft and the fact there was a full kitchen saved us some money as we could cook when we wanted and did not have to eat out every night. The rooms could use some updating but it wasn’t bad enough to make us want to not stay there.

Fun family place

We had a great time at douglas fir. Nice family oriented place with two water slides and an outdoor hot tube. The housekeeping was not so great. There was dust all over the place along the edge of the carpet and on appliances. Having said that, they do have an indoor real wood fireplace so that woudl be difficult to keep clean.

The pool and waterslides are the only reason I stayed there. The entire place needs a MAJOR overhaul and facelift. Its dirty and old.

The girl running the waterslides was awful. She enjoys bullying minors and this isn’t the first time. Don’t think we will be back. I complained to front desk and they were VERY compassionate and supportive. Thanks to the rest of the staff

Overall our stay was very good. The only minor issues we had were that the exterior front pathways were not well lit and in February at 8-9 pm the pathway to our entrance was not well lit. The only other thing was a lack of usable plug ins in the room for plug in chargers. Everything else was great! Easy to follow parking instructions and directions to our room, a lot quieter than most other hotels, comfortable bed, excellent shower. Would definitely stay here again. To be honest we are already planning a return for October.

The spa and waterslides were awesome. Very clean overall. Didn’t love that if we weren’t out of our room by 930am we didn’t get it cleaned at all for the day. And that our coffee maker didn’t work and they wouldn’t give us a new one that did work so we had to go without coffee in the morning until we went downtown.
