Perfect getaway

We rented this property with 3 other families (8 children in total). The house is very comfortable and everyone felt like they had plenty of space......garden and outdoor areas were really great and kids congregated there for hours every day when not on the beach. View of the ocean is awesome and the beach is a close walk away. We will be back :)

June Wedding

We had our wedding at Our Great Gatsby and it was the most wonderful experience. John, the owner, was very nice and easy to get in touch with. The caretaker, Carver, is helpful knows everything about that house inside and out. The landscaping is impeccable. But the inside and the outside of the house are in need of some upgrades and renovations. Overall great experience. One of the best days of our lives!

Gorgeous special home but needs a bit of repair to bring it up a notch

This a very stately and gracious old home sorely in need of maintenance and repair: old, not so efficient air conditioners; worn and stained upstairs hallway carpet; torn screens; non working electric sockets, particularly for the toaster oven. A good cleaning is in order to address dust under beds, on baseboards; mold on shower curtains (replaced quickly on request) and around tubs; dirt on basement stairs leading to washer/dryer. The large blue sectional in the main living area is a good idea but it is stained and should be cleaned or replaced. On the positive side, the home is large enough that a guest in a large family group can find a quiet nook to read and relax. Also nice new bathroom in master bath which the children loved for bathtime! The views to the sea are beautiful and grounds are expansive and well maintained and planted with flowers and shrubs all well looked after by the caretaker Carver. The large lawn was a wonderful play area for the children and the large deck was an enjoyable location for meals. Location is great, short walk to the beach and pleasant quiet neighbourhood all around. Owners as well as caretaker were great to work with leading up to visit and during stay.

Wonderful

We had our 50th Nursing School reunion here and it was marvelous. Carver who cares for the house was a gem, he was so much fun to talk to and he had a wealth of knowledge about Our Great Gatsby. He made our stay so pleasant. Five stars

Wonderful Gatsby Rental

My wife and I chose Our Great Gatsby house as the perfect wedding site for our intimate, family wedding and we could not have asked for a better rental. The property owners, John and Joan, were informative, kind, and quite personable, making it feel as though we were invited and welcomed guests into their home. The onsite property manager and grounds keeper, Carver, is truly a gem who does an impeccable job at maintaining the grounds and house. He worked diligently to ensure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and never hesitated to assist us with anything! The house itself is a beautiful structure that makes you feel as though you are in an elegant and classy era. It is fully stocked with all needed amenities and kitchen items to assist with hosting a wedding, reunion, or special event. With all of our family there, it truly felt like a home that we would never want to part with. It is also located a short, and beautiful walk from the beach, which adds to the enjoyment of all in this part of Cape Cod. I highly recommend renting this house for any occasion and know that my wife and I will be back in the coming years to celebrate our anniversary in such a beautiful spot and lovely home.

Fantastic vacation house

Our Great Gatsby is a great vacation house. We celebrated a milestone birthday by inviting many extended family members from three generations. Whether young or old, everyone found plenty to do at the house and in the area. The walk to the beach is very peaceful and takes about 15 minutes. There is a tennis court just a walk or short drive away. The ocean view gives a very nice Cape Cod feel. The house is very livable and convenient, with nice features and furnishings. Caretaking staff were superb -- always helpful, friendly, and never intrusive.

Our Gathering Place for 20 Years

This year we will celebrate our 20th year of gathering at Our Great Gatsby (which really does feel like *Our* Great Gatsby) to celebrate the New Year with an extended group of old friends. We first rented the home in December 1993, when we were graduate school students, friends, and friends of friends. Over the past two decades we've returned year after year - through marriages, kids, and now teenagers soon to be off to college themselves. We return because we love the setting, we love the combination of open and intimate space the house offers, and most of all we love to cook a large meal every night and seat everyone around the enormous dining room table. The super sized kitchen accommodates large cooking crews, 24/7 bread baking, and epic games of Boggle. And the spacious and comfortable living room provides ample space for charades, dancing, or several people to nap or read on the cozy couches simultaneously. During the day, it's a short and scenic walk to the nearby beach. At night, each family has their favorite sleeping room, but the kids particularly like to have sleepovers in the "bunk room" upstairs, and to play hide and seek in the nooks and crannies of this unique space. Our Great Gatsby has become a tradition and a home away from home for our extended chosen family. We encourage any large gathering to create their own memories there.

Great Gatsby - great vacation, great memories!

Our three weeks spent there with family and friends was that "once in a lifetime" experience, expensive but worth it – especially for those of us who travelled from Ireland. It's an eccentric mixture of shabby chic and "Big (beach) House" rough and tumble, which suited us perfectly. It is large enough to allow space to do your own thing indoor and out, get away from kids or congregate for card-playing/jigsaw puzzling. We dined in style in the evening, with anything from eight to sixteen around the table. Breakfast was more the rolling style of easy-going arrangement with mis-matched crockery and wonky toasters only adding to the laid-back, vacation vibe. Relaxing on the veranda in the evening, with a drink in hand, on return from a bracing swim and outdoor shower, is an abiding and valued memory. The house location is great for exploring Chatham and the Atlantic coast beaches, the ferries for Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard further afield, and of course all that grocery shopping nearby. I would advise doing those trips early in your vacation as by the time Great Gatsby works its magic on you, all you will want to do is grab your towel and wander around to the Forest Beach and spend your time there, with other locals, swimming or sunbathing as time and tide allow!

A fantastic rental home!

We rented this home with our extended family to have a Christmas celebration together. It was perfect. The view is spectacular and the house plenty spacious enough for all of us to have our own space as well as gather together in the living room. The yard is huge and a great place for football, frisbee, kite flying, etc. Our kids absolutely loved it. The home is loaded with charm, character and a wonderful Cape Cod feel. We recommend this home to anyone and everyone!!!

Disappointed

My family stayed at the Great Gatsby to celebrate my mother's 85th birthday. The photos of the home are accurate as well as the basic listing of accommodations. However, suggesting that the house is ideal for weddings, family retreats or business gathering is inaccurate in our opinion. The home was not clean and in disrepair. Broken table leg, wall light fixture hanging free, filthy filters on air conditioners, torn screens, etc. Updates are needed in terms of electricity, furnishings and amenities. Preparing a meal and serving food to 20 people was a chore due to the lack of dishes and utensils. Getting a large group ready to go out was also a problem due to outdated electricity and other accommodations. The home has great potential but is in need of considerable attention. The house is a little further from town than we were told so trips to town were more difficult than expected. Town is not within walking distance. You can walk to the water but it is not a swimming beach as we believed. I would not recommend this property.

Big home with a big welcome.

I booked Gatsby for my entire family (19) to spend Thanksgiving all under one roof. It was something we will never forget. The owners were so helpful and attentive during the planning and seemed to really share in my excitement. When we arrived everything was ready for us. The house is laid out perfectly with views of Nantucket sound from nearly every window. But it's the charm of the place that sets it apart. We all agreed the home felt as if it was filled with memories and good times. It is very well stocked with the everyday items needed for entertaining. The variety of pots and pans, dishes, glasses, silverware, and gadgets was amazing. The dining room is huge and we were all able to sit altogether for every meal,. The kids had a blast exploring, hide and seek took hours. We spent days on the big front lawn and nights in front of the fire. We were all able to sit together in the family room which was great with a game table off to the side that was never empty. The hammock was another popular spot and it too looked out over Nantucket sound. The caretakers are wonderful but seemed careful to give us privacy, so we barely knew they were around unless we needed them. Our Thanksgiving was exactly what it should be, family being together. Thanks to the size of Gatsby and it's warm welcome it will be one to remember.

Fantastic Weekend Wedding with Friends

We rented Our Great Gatsby to be our home base for our weekend wedding on October. What a treasure! It was perfect from start to finish. The house was clean and neat when we arrived and the caretaker was there to help us with anything we needed, then we never saw her again. The location is perfect, close to town, but the neighborhood is quiet and the house is on a dead end street. We had our wedding at the Chatham Bars Inn down the street, so we had a small rehersal dinner at the Great Gatsby and it was perfect. The living room had enough room for all 25 of our guests to sit comfortably and we lit a fire and had a wonderful time. The kitchen is big so we were able to have a caterer come in and drop off food with plenty of room, and the dining room is so large we were able to have everyone sit down and eat. We had 18 friends and family staying with us, but it never felt crowded-enough room for everyone to have their own space, and enough bathrooms for everyone to get ready. It was so nice to have everyone in one place and not scattered all over town. It was such a nice weekend and we were so sad to leave the house. It overlooks the water, and was a short distance to walk right down to the beach. We made so many wonderful memories in the house, and look forward to renting it year after year.
