I started Doug's Mountain Getaway at the age of 26, after having skied all over the world, earning money from many different means (including some comically questionable ones!)

I have been a backpacker in over 70 countries and built DMG thinking of my favourite places and most memorable times.

Tirol stole my heart 12 years ago when studying in Innsbruck, and 15 years after having run my first chalet here, I'm now lucky enough to be running the best rated lodge in the Alps! We won the Hoscar for best hostel in Austria, and were consistently the best rated for 6 years. Since then I closed it down as a hostel, spent loads more time and money on it - whilst retaining its fun charm - and focused on getting groups and families instead.

The location is hard to beat. It's nestled within one of Austria's most spectacular valleys, Stubaital, and surrounded by some of the country's highest peaks. It's a 10 minute drive from Innsbruck (dubbed 'the heart of the Alps'), and is abundant with adventure activities of all kinds from Olympic bobsleigh to paragliding right over the village.

The 100km+ of pistes in the valley's four main resorts are impeccably maintained. Schlick 2000 is accessible via a 15 minute walk from the chalet (or free bus), and the Stubai Glacier (snow guarantee 10 months of the year), Elfer, and Serlesbahnen are all accessible by a free shuttle bus that stops right next to the chalet.

100% snow guarantee! You can ski and snowboard at the Stubai Glacier every month of the year except July & August.

The summer activities are equally bountiful – hiking, biking, lakes, mountain carting, and rock climbing to name but a few. I've compiled a guidebook of all my favourite activities – it'll keep you busy for four weeks straight (doing 2 per day!) whatever the weather.
