Antica Dimora del Drengot - Our History
In the heart of the historic center of ancient "Acheruntia," a town listed among Italy's Most Beautiful Villages, I offer a private residence as a vacation home for short-term stays. Tastefully renovated and easily accessible on foot from the nearby free parking lot, the accommodations are divided into a living area accessible via an old “balcony” located in an alley adjacent to the ancient “Porta Venosina,” and a sleeping area in the basement featuring restored ancient star-vaulted ceilings made of local arenaria-tuff stone.
The Accommodation:
Living area with an entryway leading to the kitchen-living room and an exposed fireplace, a relaxation corner for reading or using a laptop, and a functional bathroom. A three-seater faux-leather sofa bed suitable for two and a one-and-a-half-seater faux-leather sofa bed for single use.
Sleeping area featuring a Soft-Luxury double suite with classic furnishings, including a wrought-iron bed with a hypoallergenic, dust-mite-resistant latex mattress.
Guest access:
Exclusive use of the entire independent apartment. Air-conditioned rooms throughout the apartment, free Wi-Fi, and a security safe. Bed linens, towels, and a hair dryer are provided for guests. The kitchen is equipped with cookware for all uses, a classic Bialetti Moka Express coffee maker, and a Kimbo pod coffee machine. Linen change provided every 3–4 days for stays of at least one week. Final cleaning and stove cleaning included in the price.
Guest interaction:
Acerenza is Art, History, Traditions, Food and Wine, Culture, and Nature. Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed and pampered discreetly by our experienced staff, who will explain everything and provide you with all the information you need for short excursions in the village, the surrounding area, and the house rules. They will be available to guests for any emergency or need throughout your stay.
Other highlights:
An excellent strategic location for exploring on foot the now-famous village, its doorways adorned with mysterious Templar symbols and allegorical masks, the Magnificent and Superb Cathedral of Acerenza in the Romanesque-Cluniac style, the panoramic tower, the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, the Farmhouse, and the Park of the Cellars carved into the rock, as well as the natural and scenic beauty of the Upper Bradano region. In the surrounding area, you can visit the old farmhouses and agricultural and livestock farms, the Frederick II-era castles of Lagopesole, Monteserico, and Castel del Monte in nearby ancient Apulia; the extraordinary city of Matera, just 45 minutes away; nearby Gavina di Puglia with its underground ravines; the Alta Murgia National Park; Pietragalla with its ancient olive presses and Ducal Palace, the 15th-century Cancellara Castle with its keep, Forenza—a Templar town, Venosa—the city of Horace, Melfi—the Norman capital, and the villages of Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano in the famous Lucanian Dolomites, where you can experience the thrill of the magical and adrenaline-pumping “Angel’s Flight,” as well as enjoy the region’s culinary specialties and fun excursions to Basilicata’s first alpaca farm, the spectacular horseback trekking trails in the Bradano Valley River Park, walks through the woods, and the unspoiled nature around the Acerenza reservoir, where you can enjoy deep-water fishing.
