In the medieval village of Nerola, just 40 km from Rome, stands an ancient 14th-century residence that has been tastefully restored to highlight the beauty of the architecture of that era in the Roman Sabina region. If you’re looking for a place to stay surrounded by tranquility while still enjoying the conveniences of the city center, “Le pietre silenti”—a place where the old and the new come together in harmony—is the ideal location for your stay, where you can relax and rediscover the joy of life’s simple pleasures.

The Mari-Anne apartment is located in the historic center across from Orsini Castle, with a private entrance. After descending a few steps, you’ll be welcomed by an outdoor courtyard with a covered patio—perfect for a relaxing breakfast. All the windows overlook the valley, offering panoramic views. The old stone walls keep the apartment cool and quiet in the summer. The bedroom features a minimalist style with a French-style four-poster bed, a convenient coat rack with a shelf, and a small dresser for storing your belongings. In the living room, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchenette with an oven and dishwasher, as well as a comfortable designer table (Callegari) that seats up to 6 for your dinners, and a convenient, spacious Bosch refrigerator. A leather sofa completes the living room, perfect for relaxing. The bathroom, built into an old staircase, is accessed via a few steps and offers a warm, welcoming space, where a large, spacious shower and a comfortable sink overlook two small windows offering glimpses of medieval scenery.
Guest access
Access to the apartment is on foot, down a few steps. You can reach it by car, and with a little luck, park right in front of the entrance. The town is small and very compact; shops and services are all within easy reach—from the grocery store to the bakery with traditional pastries, a café, a pizzeria, a traditional trattoria, a tobacco shop, and an ATM. The medieval village of Nerola is built around the Orsini Castle and is entirely accessible on foot; in just a short time, you’ll come across old wine cellars, painting studios, and small bric-a-brac artisans. In the surrounding area, there are mountain trails for short but invigorating walks in the open air, where you can discover old fountains and farmhouses and purchase locally sourced products such as cheeses, tomatoes, and the fabulous extra virgin olive oil from Sabina.
Other things to keep in mind
“Pietre silenti” is located in Nerola (Rome).
