Hillcrest Cottage is a beautifully refurbished Cotswold holiday cottage near Tetbury which sleeps up to three adults or two adults and two children, in two well-appointed bedrooms. The ground floor is made up of an open plan living/dining room flooded with natural light on three sides and a stylish kitchen and utility room. Upstairs, along with the two bedrooms is a modern family bathroom with charming roll top bath.

Accommodation
This two bedroom holiday cottage in Avening is ideally suited to a small family or group of friends who enjoy the countryside. The accommodation is laid out as follows:

The maximum occupancy for this property is 4 guests, though the number of adults per booking is capped at 3. Infants and children count towards the occupancy so the maximum occupancy is 2 adults and 2 children/infants or 3 adults and 1 child/infant.

Off street parking is available for up to 1 car with further on street parking available nearby
1 travel cot and 1 highchair are available on request (please bring your own linen for the travel cot, as this is not provided)

Issues with the property

We had quite a few issues with the property. No written instructions how to operate the heating so had to phone the maintenance gentleman as it was too hot at night and cold during the day. Sat on the sofa and the leg collapsed having been propped up by the previous let. It could not be repaired so was propped up with books. There was only 1 tea towel for a week. No cloths or pan scrubbers. No toilet brush.?

We find a very nice cottage in a little nice village in the countryside. Comfortable, very good equipped, in a very quiet place. We enjoy our short holiday to visit Cotswold.

A cosy cottage for the weekend!

We had a lovely weekend at Hillcrest cottage. The cottage is cosy and well furnished with a fully equipped kitchen. The location is great - close to Tetbury and other Cotswolds attractions. The cottage is a little worn in places and could use a fresh coat of paint but that didn’t detract from the cottage being a great place to stay!

Relaxing Weekend

A lovely relaxing weekend in a detached cottage ideally suited for visits to Tetbury and Cirencester. Accommodation was warm and comfy, including the bed which was super comfy! The local pub The Bell was friendly and just a few minutes walk from the property. Maybe a small welcome pack would help as there is no shop in the village, but would highly recommend staying at the property.

A short holiday at Hillcrest cottage

We used this as a base for exploring the Dursley and Leonard Stanley areas of Gloucestershire for family history research. The location of the cottage was very convenient for this. The cottage was very clean and well equipped and we were pleased that there was off-road parking. We felt that the furnishings and colour schemes had been thoughtfully chosen and were very suitable for a cottage property. There were two areas we felt could be improved. It would be helpful and safer, particularly for older guests, if a handrail was provided on the stairs. Also we think that the description of the patio area in your advertisements is a bit misleading as there would be very little room to sit at the table when a car is parked in the parking space. However, these are minor points and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at this cottage. We would be very happy to make a return visit and would gladly recommend it to other people.

Hillcrest Cottage

Lovely stay at Hillcrest cottage. Really nice, comfortable stay for the three of us. Had everything we needed, was quiet, clean and tidy and a really good location for getting out to places like Stroud, Cirencester, Westonbirt Arboretum etc. Richard, the property manager was really helpful and on hand if needed. Great week, thanks.

Good qualitiy cottage, starting point for interesting excursions (e.g. Rodmarton Manor). Parking space on property too small, but offroad parking on private Mill Lane possible.

Fab cottage in great location

Last minute booking and what a gem! The cottage has everything you could need, is very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Off road parking is an absolute bonus in this area and whilst the parking space is compact, we have a big car and had no issues reversing in. We spent the weekend visiting local towns and villages and the cottage location makes a great base for days out. The bed was supremely comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, lovely hot water from a great shower and a lot of thought has gone in to the furnishings. My sister and brother in law have already made a future booking on our recommendation and we will definitely be back!

A superbly presented property in a lovely area of the Cotswolds

The cottage was the perfect base for our four day stay in the Cotswolds. Beautifully presented, clean, tidy, comfortable and stylish. Everything was just as the information had described. Just what we needed !! :)

Delightful cottage in a quiet village

We couldn't be more pleased with our choice to stay at this delightful cottage deep in the Cotswolds and away from the main tourist towns. Beautifully decorated and comfortable, and access with the keysafe was easy. There is parking at the rear for one car. Hillcrest Cottage offered the real experience of staying in a Cotwolds village, with a locals pub at the Bell, walks, and the small town of Nailsworth is a short drive and has shops, cafe's etc. but also part of a circular walk. We thought Hillcrest was fantastic value for the comfort, space, and location.

Very nice house in a lovely village.

The house was very comfortable and the village was charming. There is a choice of two pubs but we did not discover whether there was a local shop. Parking is limited and it isn’t clear where the designated parking space is at the rear of the property. We also noted that the bathroom had a leaking tap and a wobbly toilet seat. It could also do with more hooks for towels etc.

The property is just as it's presented. We stayed over 3 weeks so we can safely say it was very nice. Parking for 1 small car worked well. It's tight but as expected and we didn't worry about damage or finding a spot. The shower was fantastic. We had what we needed. The location worked well for exploring the areas in all directions. (Cotswolds, Bath, Highclere Castle, and Wales, etc) and we were glad to be able to experience a proper village rather than the more touristy towns. A view of real village life from the kitchen window, the sound of riders clip clopping by on horseback, a quiet walk to see signs of Christmas, all were appreciated. Note: The Queen Matilda pub is closed. We would especially recommend The Ragged Cot for any meal. Tetbury, Nailsworth and Stroud, Minchinhampton are all about equidistant from the cottage. Lifelong memories were made over our special Christmas at Hillside Cottage.

Beautifully appointed cottage

The furnishings and decor are all beautiful in this cottage and we had a really lovely 4 night stay. We were a little unlucky that the closest pub was closed for refurbishment and the next had no food due to illness, but clearly not the fault of the cottage! The only real issue is the parking. It’s probably ok if you come in 1 small vehicle, but my sister and I travelled from different parts of the country and met there. I was fortunate to be greeted by the property manager/owner who advised that 1 car could go on the drive and the other behind it on Mill Lane. We put the smallest car on the little drive but after only half an hour of the other car being parked in Mill Lane there was hammering on the door and an aggressive neighbour complained. I diffused the situation by being polite to him and moving the car but it’s fairly clear that the neighbours don’t like this property being a holiday rental as he said he “was sick of this”. We weren’t really relaxed the whole of the first evening as a result of being shouted at by a strange man. Another neighbour regularly uses the cottage bin and looks in through the window as she does! Such a shame, because other than the parking situation / neighbours the cottage is really lovely!

Poor treatment

I was required to check out after only 1 night of a 14 night booking, after three separate polite requests to avoid using any strong cleaning chemicals were ignored . I have an allergy to these(I have photos of my very irritated eyes and nasty rashes on my hands that occurred later).Even after catching the cleaner when briefly dropping off luggage and then immediately leaving for a further two hours with assurance that these strong chemicals would be wiped off ,it transpired later that was this was not completed- leaving me with a false sense of assurance that all would be safe for me to enter later . I was therefore only able to stay one night and developed a bad allergic reaction so had to exit the next day, I had attempted to contact the agents the following day but they do not operate at the weekends and this was a Saturday. Thankfully another much more professional local agent than StayCotswold could save me from this abysmal guest care (Rural Retreats who saved the day)and were open on a Saturday and helped me to find alternative accommodation nearby last minute and were also able to follow my requests so I could continue my two week holiday as a happy and safe guest. StayCotswold and the property manager showed little or no concern for what had happened to me. I had requested a 35% refund only because payment for 14 nights when I was only able to stay one night seemed a bit unfair but I wanted to compromise . They wouldn’t help or compromise in the slightest and kept insisting that they had been unable to correct the situation on account of me fully checking in early -which I kept repeating was totally *untrue* (and I have a solid witness for that) and that we drove away almost immediately (not returning for a further two hours)with the cleaner lady promising to correct the situation which for unknown reasons she did not! I was astonished and saddened at this unreasonable and poor treatment of myself as a guest and have never encountered such a situation in this context. So much so that we are now prepared to consider legal action.

Cosy cottage.

Cute and cosy cottage Equipment poor. Just three wine glasses ( one red and two Prosecco), no logs for fire on arrival but they did bring three along later. Comfy bed and nice linens. Couldn’t pull up blind in front room. Thoughtful that it was decorated for Christmas. Village is quiet but nothing there apart from a pub. Good for local villages. Parking ok for a small car but we had to leave ours on the main road.
