Of all the places we've stayed/ visited, this is the most magical. The villa itself is beautiful, as are the property and view. The villa was clean, spacious, with fully stocked kitchen supplies, art supplies, and the baby items we requested (2 cribs, high chair). Sarah was a wonderful host, easily available for any questions/ recommendations. She went above and beyond by having fresh pastries for us and also putting up a pool fence since we had young kids. Vorno is a lovely, quiet town located close to many activities. We did day trips to Lucca (15 minutes), forte de marmi beach (35 minutes), a local vineyard (20min). We were grateful to be away from the crowds/ tourists of Lucca. We greatly enjoyed the at home cooking class with Celine that the host recommended. I would highly recommend this VRBO and would love to stay again in the future!

Fabulous spacious villa

We loved this very spacious very comfortable beautiful villa. It’s even better than the photos. Plenty of outside space for parking and games. The pool was close to the villa and the kids had freedom to use it morning noon and night! We hadn’t realised how close it was to a beach , Lucca and Pisa so we had a few trips there. It was a very special holiday.

An incredible stay at Casa Joanna. What a beautiful place in the heart of Tuscany. Only 15 mins from Lucca, 7 from the nearest supermarket. The villa was well equipped for everything you’d need during your stay. The grounds, pool and patio area were a tranquil escape. Couldn’t have hoped for a better holiday with our friends, it felt like a home with real character rather than your standard accommodation. Would love to come back one day…

AMAZING

We had a completely amazing stay at Casa Joanna. The home was plenty spacious for our group of ten. We had Valentino as a chef and took cooking lessons from him. He and his wife were delightful and the food outstanding. Roman made our stay perfect in every way. He was quick to respond to all messages, gave us great suggestions on what to do and where to eat. He also saved us by making two trips to gather us all from Lucca when it was poring rain and we missed our bus. He made us feel very at home. Can’t wait until we can return.

Fantastic original Italian Villa

Situated just outside Lucca, this beautiful villa is stunning and secluded in gorgeous gardens with a swimming pool. The villa is tastefully furnished, has a huge living room /kitchen plus generous size bedrooms with ensuite. Surrounded by fab views of Lucca and the countryside, there are so many walks to explore, including the local village and church. The villa exudes originality and authenticity. We had a wonderful time there - you definitely need a car to explore and get to Lucca which is an amazing walled city, full of history. Highly recommended.

Tuscan gem

We enjoyed our family vacation at this beautiful Tuscan villa in the village of Vorno. The manager Roman, went out of his way to make sure our needs were met. No detail was too small. There is 1 ristorante within walking distance named A. Bimbotto that we highly recommend. Unfortunately the other shops and services have recently closed so transportation is essential. Everything else is as advertised and we would definitely recommend staying at this beautiful villa in the Tuscan hillside.

Thank you for you kind review. We are very blessed to have Roman run the team at Casa Joanna. I am sorry you did not find Il Rio in the village, which serves coffee, croissants and Italian fare. There is also Cucina Dello Scompiglio which is an excellent organic restaurant a 20 minute walk from the villa with a beautiful terrace. Here you would also find a local cafe for lunch. Next time perhaps? Thank you.

Beautiful accommodation: authentic Tuscan

My husband and two children stayed here for a week and we could not have been happier. We had a magical holiday, which was very peaceful, surrounded by stunning landscapes. The house itself is truly sumptuous and luxurious, yet so comfortable and inviting. Our youngest son loved the grounds which were secure and large enough to find a number of super secret hiding places. The newly refurbished pool and garden make all the difference when it comes to dining outside. We absolutely adore this holiday villa and have already booked to go again in 2015. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wishes for a true taste of luxurious and authentic Tuscany. Close enough to Lucca but far enough into the hills for a true getaway.

A beautiful home set within an idyllic Tuscan village

Our time spent at Casa Joanna was the perfect antidote to busy city life. The house is filled with personal touches that make it feel more like a home than just a villa rental. We spent a lot of our time in the villa cooking in the kitchen and hanging out by the pool. The historic town of Lucca is very close by with lovely restaurants and beautiful churches. We also ventured out to beautiful Florence- only an hour door to door by car. We also made an excursion to the beach- half an hour by car. There are fantastic restaurants in the local area and lovely morning walks to be made into the hills just behind the village where the house is situated. We can't wait to return again!

Totally terrific Tuscan splendour

Our third trip to Casa Joanna, which is simply a stunning property that is very well maintained and cared for and offers a luxurious, spacious, and ‘warm’ environment to relax for the whole family. Every one loved the pool, the beautiful art and homely touches that make this home feel like your very own Tuscan retreat. Correspondence ahead of our stay was, as ever, timely and helpful. Contacted during our stay was courteous and helpful, and we can only say THANK YOU SARAH & ROMAN for your service and care. The local restaurants are fabulous, the local people are friendly and caring, and the local countryside (which I spent time exploring on an mountain bike, and my wife ran trails in the hills) is simply breath-taking. Cannot recommend this place enough! Until next year!

Italian rural idyll

There were 5 in our group and our ages ranged from v early 20s, through the mid fifties and on up to mid 70s and we were here for our post Christmas holiday and New Year celebrations and it was all here for all of us. Villa Johanna, once upon a time the village school, is truly delightful: comfortable, clean, well maintained, quiet, relaxing, elegant, gracious, private and yet close enough to divine Lucca to ensure we all tasted the full Italian life on offer. We shopped close by for food and cooked our meals in the large family kitchen/living room. We indulged in the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted in Lucca after a cycle ride around the city walls and we partied in a local hostelry to bring in 2014. Walking around the village gave us a true taste of an unchanging way of life that is rarely experienced these days. We shall return!

Amazing Tuscan villa!!

Our family recently came back from a two week vacation in Italy of which we spent one glorious week in Tuscany. The six bedroom eight bathroom Casa Johanna was perfect for our group of nine (we could have used more people actually!). Both Roman and Sarah made us feel very welcomed and the huge villa had all the amenities one could ask for. The pool was well used almost every day by our kids and the canopies and loungers were great! The grounds were immaculate with beautiful flowers and greenery. The 360 degree views of the Tuscan hills and the city lights of Lucca were amazing. The pictures, as one previous guest mentioned, do not do the place justice. We also loved the area and had a chance to explore. Peace and blissful quiet was just what we needed. Thank you very much for hosting us Roman and Sarah!! Family hols 2024

The photos do not really do Casa Joanna justice. We were 8 comprising 3 generations, Mum and Dad (Granny and Grumpy) 3 kids (in 20s and 30s), 2 sons in law and a nearly 3 granddaughter. I think it is fair to say we all made maximum use of this gorgeous property. Not sure how we are going to survive with just one kitchen when we get home, and of course no swimming pool or an endless supply of the most gorgeous tomatoes, courgettes, peppers and herbs from the allotment. Just stunning. We all agreed that of all of the properties we’ve stayed in over the last 25 years, this was by far the winner so far. Great location, super attentive Roman and Michaela managing the property with Sarah answering all pre holiday questions. We are all in agreement that we will be back again at some stage. We loved it. Fantastic stay at beautiful Villa Joanna

We had a brilliant week's holiday with a group of friends at Villa Joanna this August – we loved it, and would highly recommend it to others! And being only 10 minutes drive from Lucca, and a 30 minute drive to Pisa airport - but set in a quiet Tuscan village, you couldn't really ask for the villa to be better located. The house itself is beautiful and a great size (and perfectly clean), with lots of space for cooking and relaxing downstairs, and upstairs the bedrooms are all lovely and nicely decorated – our bed was huge and v. comfortable and our bathroom even had a gorgeous roll-top bath. The grounds of the house are equally lovely with lots of space around the pool for sunbathing on the loungers, or eating lunch on the terrace area. And when we didn't feel like cooking, we discovered two delicious restaurants within walking distance – A Bimbotto in the village itself, and Scompiglio on the outskirts of the village... we took a slightly countryside walking route to get to it, which was a lovely way to enjoy the Tuscan views at sunset! We'd also recommend La Cecca as another great local restaurant we came across, and about a 5 minute drive from the villa. Trips into Lucca were really fun, especially renting bikes and cycling around the tops of the ancient walls that surround the city, and treating ourselves to some gelato afterwards! And we also enjoyed a day at the beach - which was an easy 30 min drive to get to and very nice, especially if you pay to rent some loungers for the day from the local beach restaurant.

A lovely property in a very quaint village!

We had a party of 5 that thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the West side of Casa Joanna. The apartment looks even better than the photos can indicate. The bedrooms are all nicely sized and each has its own individual bathrooms. The master bathroom is particularly nice with 2 sinks, a ver nice shower, and soaking tub from which you view the forested hills outside of Vorno. The common space is very large open room with a huge table (that can seat more than a dozen people), a very nice kitchen and a seating area that has a comfortable couch and love seats. The kitchen has all of the equipment needed to cook whatever you'd like. It also has all of the utensils, plates, bowls, etc as well as glasses that you would ever need. When we arrived, there was milk in the fridge, coffee in the cabinet, and a loaf of fresh bread on the counter as well as fresh flowers in the bedrooms. The outdoor space is very nice and we used the pool and comfortable lounge chairs and ate most of our meals out side under the canopy. The owners happened to be staying in the east side of the villa. They were very respectful, warm and helpful hosts. The property manager was responsive and very helpful. One thing to note is that the deposit and rental payments are paid via wire transfers. In my case, that added $100 to the cost of the stay. It was still worthwhile but something to be aware of. Vorno is a very quaint town with nice amenities. There is a very good restaurant called Bimbotta just a couple of blocks away. It bills itself as a pizza restaurant but actually has a much broader menu including pasta and meats. Also 2 blocks away is a very good butcher shop.

Fabulous Vacation Spot

Our group of 5 stayed at Casa Joanna for 10 days in late September-early October. The on-line photos, description, and Google Maps & Street View did not do the property justice. It was so much better than we could have imagined. We stayed in the eastern half of the house with 3 large en-suite bedrooms, a large, fully equipped modern kitchen, free wireless internet, warm family room and huge beautiful, private yard, cabanas, swimming pool, and gardens. The views are unbelievable from the grounds and bedrooms towards the mountains to the south and Lucca and the the Apennines Mountains to the north. Working with the owners and reserving the property was very easy (international wire transfer with excellent instructions). The property is located in the quaint, quiet, and beautiful village of Vorno in the heart of Tucscany which contained several great small restaurants within easy walking distances - Bimbotto's, Osteria Cucina dello Scompiglio, La Bettola, and il Rio. The people are all very friendly and helpful and patient with our poor Italian vocabulary although most spoke some English. The village had great walking and hiking trails with fantastic views towards Lucca and the mountains north. The house is located 4 miles from the Lucca train station from which we traveled to Rome and the Cinque Terra. We rented an auto and easily navigated all over the area to the Mediterranean beaches close by - Marina di Vecchiano (10 miles) and Forte dei Marmi. We drove to Lucca, Pisa, several wineries, Volterra, and Montecarlo. The wine and food was fantastic. The Caretaker, Roman, speaks English well. He was invaluable in helping plan our trips, giving advice, making suggestions, and taking care of the property. He also met us at Pisa Airport where we rented a car and he escorted us to Casa Joanna only about 30 minute drive away. I would highly recommend vacationing at Casa Joanna and all of my traveling companions agreed that it was one of our most relaxing, memorable, and fun vacations we had ever taken.

Wonderful stay!

This is a great place to stay to get away from it all. Beautiful house and pool and plenty of room for our multi generational party of 8 including two guests under the age of 3. Roman was always available with any questions and we had chef Valentino come in one night and cook dinner for us which was amazing. Lucca is about a 12 minute drive away. If possible, don’t rent a large car as the roads in Vorno are tiny!

Wonderful stay

The villa was fantastic - so comfortable and well-equipped. The pool was great especially as the weather was very hot . There were lots of different areas for eating and relaxing both indoors and outdoors. The villa manager , Roman, was very helpful and quickly found and booked a restaurant in Lucca for us when we arrived at the restaurant we had booked only to find it was shut due to Covid. He provided a great taxi service when we needed it. We were a group of 11 consisting of a mix of ages, including a five and seven year old. The children agreed it was their best holiday ever. We would all definitely stay here again. Thank you Sarah and Roman for your brilliant hospitality .

amazing stay, better than the photos

This villa is so beautiful, both the interior and exterior, the photos do not do it justice!! The communication with the hosts was great, the villa has everything you need and is in the most picturesque setting. It is a bit hard for drivers to find so we would ask them to come to the pizza restaurant nearby (which is also a great restaurant), but there's not always phone reception everywhere in the area so be wary of that when telling drivers/taxis where to meet. Otherwise, everything was so incredible, we loved every moment and can't wait to organize another trip back.

Weekend di relax, posto incantevole

Location assolutamente consigliata per qualsiasi tipo di permanenza che sia incentrata sullo stare insieme tra amici o famiglia. La casa è molto bella, bagni in tutte le camere, spazi ampi e comodità di ogni genere. Piscina e giardino sono stupendi. Noi abbiamo vissuto qualche giorno tra amici e con bambini piccoli, davvero riuscendo a goderci le giornate grazie non solo alla struttura ma ai servizi che possono essere organizzati insieme all'house manager (esempio: chef a domicilio, grigliata, babysitter, pulizie straordinarie, altro). Consigliatissimo.

Casa Joanna, ist ein wundervolles Objekt für entspannten Toskanaurlaub. Roman der Housekeeper hat für alles ein offenes Ohr. Wir haben sehr gut aufgehoben gefühlt.
