A orillas del río Lauwers, cerca de la «Ruta Costera Verde», se encuentra Lauwerspleats, una histórica granja con granero con techo de paja construida en 1651 por los monjes del cercano Girkesklooster. La granja se encuentra en su propio montículo, con accesibilidad limitada para personas con discapacidad. Los huéspedes pueden nadar en el río durante todo el año y utilizar una barca de remos con motor para dar paseos por el Lauwersmeer. Los amantes del ciclismo tienen a su disposición bicicletas de paseo para hombres y mujeres, así como una bicicleta de transporte especial «Danske Post» para hacer picnics. La zona de Lauwers, conocida como la «Camarga del norte», cuenta con lagos, arroyos, playas y bosques, y ofrece una flora y fauna muy diversas. Los observadores de aves disfrutarán de las migraciones de primavera y otoño. Entre los puertos cercanos se encuentran Lauwersoog, Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen, Oostmahorn y Zoutkamp, mientras que Dokkum está a solo 15 km. Leeuwarden y Groningen están a unos 30 km de la casa y ofrecen cultura, historia y tiendas. Desde Lauwersoog se pueden realizar excursiones de un día a Schiermonnikoog.
