Relax in our cozy vacation home in the small village of Reynes, nestled in the green hills above the town of Ceret, near the Spanish border. The area offers the very best of nature and culture. Nestled between the high peaks of the Pyrenees and the beautiful beaches and coves of the Catalan coast, our home is the perfect base for a variety of day trips and hikes. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate and its south-facing orientation, our house is a very pleasant place to stay all year round.
The space
The house has two floors, featuring a cozy living room with an open kitchen and three bedrooms. Key features include the various sunny terraces and outdoor spaces with stunning views of the natural surroundings. In the winter, we heat the house with electric heaters, and there’s a wood-burning stove in the living room.
Guest access
During your stay, you are our guest and welcome to use our home as if it were your own. Use our kitchen, including any ingredients you find there, read our books, and use our bikes.
In return, we ask that you treat the house with respect, as if it were your own home. Please keep it clean and leave it as you found it.
Other things to keep in mind
Our house is located in the small village of Reynes, in a place called Le Casteil, directly above the Mairie (town hall). At the mini roundabout in Reynes, take a sharp right toward the Mairie. Drive uphill on the small road, to the right of the cemetery. After two very sharp turns, you can park your car in the small parking lot in front of our house, Can Casteil. You’ll find the key box by the front door.
You’ll need a car. Reynes is not accessible by public transportation.
The house is a detached, old Catalan farmhouse that we’ve renovated while respecting its original style. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate and its south-facing orientation, the house is a pleasant place to stay year-round. We usually enjoy great weather, blue skies, and plenty of sunshine even in the fall and winter. The house has electric heating for the winter. In the summer, the house’s 60-cm-thick stone walls provide protection from the sun. We do not have air conditioning.
The house is built on a steep slope. The outdoor area consists of a steep garden with several terraces. In the garden, you need to be careful not to fall. This means that small children cannot play in the garden unsupervised. Only the top terrace has a safety fence.
The master bedroom is next to the living room on the first floor. The second bedroom is upstairs. The second bedroom is small and low-ceilinged, so watch your head!
In the basement, we have a washing machine that you’re welcome to use. You’ll also find a few bicycles available for your use. We’re also building a sauna, but it’s still under construction.
There’s also a third bedroom in the basement. If there are more than four of you, you can rent it for an additional 30 euros per day. Let us know if you’d like to rent the extra bedroom.
In addition to the indoor bathroom, you’ll find an outdoor shower on the lower terrace—especially lovely in the summer, but also in the winter thanks to the solar heating system.
Our place is a great base for various day trips and hikes. Hike up the sacred Mount Canigou, swim in nearby rivers and the sea, and visit Romanesque monasteries and wineries. The nearby town of Céret offers a wide range of great shops, bars, restaurants, and a fantastic museum of modern art. The French Catalan coast offers both sandy beaches (try Plage le Racou near Argelès-sur-Mer) and rocky coves (try Plage du Paulilles, between Port-Vendres and Banyuls).
