Historic character cottage in central Dornoch
School Hill Croft is a very special special 200 year old home which has an unbeatable character, ambience and location.
Oozing character the house which has been lovingly refurbished is in an envious slightly elevated position which offers superb uninterrupted views of the famous Cathedral & historic town.
Just a stones throw to the local shops & restaurants, you can also be on the first tee in a 5 minute walk and the beach just another 5 minutes passed the club house.
The space
The croft is set in its own fenced private lawned garden which directly overlooks the Cathedral and the small town. South West facing the garden is perfect to enjoy the evening sun and in the event of a poor day all the windows in the house enjoy the same intriguing view. With parking at the side of the garden and own private EV charging point.
Upon entering the property you are welcomed with traditional slate floors and a large hand made traditional feature column radiator.
The lounge is found to the left with it's original stone interior wall with feature sword, wood / fuel stove, comfortable seating and a sprinkling of interesting period antique and vintage curio's.
Right from the entrance the slate floors follow through into the kitchen where you will find an old fireplace and a large dining table. Accompanied by a suit of fantastic Smeg cooking appliances, dishwasher & Bose sound system to help make entertaining at the house a pleasure, plus a handy clothes washer drier too.
If you continue through the kitchen you will find a Bedroom which is quite spacious for a historic croft with a beautiful Villeroy & Boch En-suite including oversized shower.
Off the entrance hall is a under stair guest pantry / storage cupboard and the main bathroom, traditionally fitted with roll top bath and separate walk in shower.
Upstairs there are 2 further traditional bedrooms in the eves of the house, each with a double bed and views over the cathedral, town & if you look closely flickers of the Dornoch Firth (Glen of tranquillity) through the wood clad gabled windows.
Guest access
The whole house is included in the rental apart from the outside shed where we store cleaning equipment etc.
Other things to note
WIFI - Fibre cable direct to the building offers a staggering 300Mb upload and download.
EV Charger - Private GoZero EV charger for sole use of house guests. Your own cable is required & App can be downloaded for Apple or Android where you can login and make payments.
N.B. To charge your EV you do need to park up close to the gable end on the road as the charging point is at the end of the building and there is no off street parking.

Having spent a lot of my life in Dornoch our small family currently live in Cumbria, running a small business and in our spare time enjoying sailing, biking and hiking.
It's a real pleasure having guests stay in the house so we can share the experience of being at the fantastic cottage. The feedback we receive is great and motivates us to keep investing and improving, with the aim to clearly be the best place to stay in the area for people wanting a old character property of this size.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento
Dornoch is a wonderful place to visit and a real jewel of the Highlands. There isn't another town this far North that offers such a quality experience.
As well as famously being home to one of the best golf courses in the world which is now over 400 years old, Dornoch is a great base to explore from. Some of our favourite walks are the local beach walks, forest trails, Struie Hill & a pilgrimage up to see Duke of Sutherland (statue) in Golspie.
Handmade products, whisky and fabrics can be found on a potter around the shops, but you can easily just lose days relaxing at the house.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
School Hill Croft is unique in it's fabulous location, offering and unrivalled position slightly elevated with uninterrupted views of the cathedral and town skyline. With the South West facing private garden and all rooms having here's not another property available for rent we are aware of that compares.
The croft is steeped in history, being almost 200 years old the building was built by The Duke of Sutherland and has a fantastic blend of original features as well as newer ones. Bakelite switches throughout give a traditional look and offer a lovely satisfying click when used. Slate floors, open stone wall in the lounge, feature sword, bedrooms in the eves, window seats in the kitchen and loinge. The list is endless and high percentage of returning guests pay tribute to the character and quality of the croft.
