Lifestyle in Chiswick
Shops and restaurants
Shopping in Chiswick extends from King Street and then along Chiswick High Road with break-out streets on Devonshire Road and Turnham Green Terrace.
Chiswick has a mix of independent shops and high street chains with branches of supermarkets Sainsbury’s and Waitrose and brands such as Jigsaw, Space NK, Fired Earth, Whistles, Waterstones, Mint Velvet, Oliver Bonas, Phase Eight, and WH Smith, and chain restaurants Franco Manca, Honest Burger, Nando’s, PizzaExpress, Rock & Rose, Five Guys, Gail’s, Zizzi and Chipotle.
But Chiswick is also a place where independent shops, boutiques, cafés and restaurants thrive and there is a strong foodie vibe.
La Librairie is a French second-hand bookshop; The Old Cinema is crammed full of antiques; Nikki’s Bakery also has a café; Foubert’s is a long-standing Italian eatery and ice-cream parlour; L’Appétit Fou sells mouthwatering chocolates; The Source Bulk Foods is an on trend anti-plastic store where shoppers weigh out their own ingredients; Bayley & Sage is part of a small chain of delicatesssens; Wheelers Gardens is a well-stocked garden centre; Fosters’ Books, a second-hand book shop, is in the oldest shop in Chiswick, dating from the 18th century and Neptune sells furniture and accessories with a New England twist.
There are restaurants from around the world including fish and chips, Thai, Japanese, Italian, Vietnamese, Mexican, Persian and no one is far from a flat white or a family brunch at Artisan; Angie’s Little Food Shop; Chief Coffee (a favourite with Knight Frank) which has a pinball lounge in the basement; Tamp Coffee; the Chiswick Fire Station, part of the Darwin & Wallace bar and restaurant chain; and Château Dessert, which serves more than just cakes.
Chiswick residents clearly like to cook and eat out in style. On Turnham Green Terrace there is a long-standing butcher, Macken Brothers; Natoora for fruit and veg; and Covent Garden Fishmongers.
Lea & Sandeman in Chiswick High Road is part of a small wine merchant chain recently awarded a royal warrant. Fine dining is to be had at La Trompette, sister to Chez Bruce at Wandsworth Common; Michael Nadra in Elliott Road and Le Vacherin in South Parade.
Others with a strong local following include the High Road Brasserie, part of the Soho House empire; Charlotte’s Bistro in Turnham Green Terrace and Annie’s in Thames Road.

Transport
Chiswick is exceptionally well connected, being close to the South Circular and the North Circular roads, the M3, the M4 and the A40.
Spread out along the District line, Chiswick is served by Tube stations at Ravenscourt Park, Stamford Brook and Turnham Green on the Richmond and Ealing Broadway branches. Gunnersbury is also on the District line but only the Richmond branch.
Chiswick Park is also on the District line but the Ealing Broadway branch only. Additionally, Turnham Green is on the Piccadilly line.
There are trains from Chiswick station to Waterloo, which take 27 minutes, via Clapham Junction and Vauxhall.
All stations with the exception of Chiswick Park, Gunnersbury and Chiswick are in Zone 2.
