Capraia rises in the Tyrrhenian Sea 56km west of the Italian mainland, 32km northwest of Elba, and 31km east of Corsica's northern tip, a strategic position that has bestowed upon the island a rich and eventful history.


The best way to discover Capraia is by boat. The coastline is extraordinarily beautiful and various, with towering cliffs, gorgeous rocky coves, numerous grottoes and transparent waters. There is one sandy beach on Capraia, at Cala Mortolla in the northeast. It's only accessible by boat and there's a water taxi service from the port (when weather and tidal conditions permit).


Capraia sits at the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and over three quarters of the island is under the park’s very strict control, with a long stretch of the western coast completely out of bounds. The surrounding waters are a sanctuary for a wide variety of marine life including, passing sperm whales, dolphins, tuna and swordfish.
