The Space:
Indulge in the exquisite charm of Court Hay Cottage, a haven of refined country living. The heart of the home is a thoughtfully designed kitchen diner, featuring a magnificent AGA stove, perfect for culinary creations. Flowing seamlessly from the kitchen is a spacious living room, bathed in natural light and warmed by a crackling wood-burning stove.
French doors open onto a sprawling garden, complete with a sheltered seating area, inviting you to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. A second, equally inviting lounge, complete with a smart television and a second wood-burning stove provides an additional space for relaxation. A dedicated study offers a quiet sanctuary for work or contemplation.
Upstairs, the master suite beckons with its king-size bed, en-suite bathroom, and a luxurious freestanding bath, promising a truly restorative experience. Two further bedrooms, one double with a single and one twin, share a vibrant, contemporary shower room.
Ample parking is available on the extensive driveway.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the whole property and garden.
The Neighborhood:
Court Hay Cottage is located in the heart of the north Dorset countryside, surrounded by a plethora of attractions, pubs, restaurants and wildlife.
The small village of Child Okeford is a few minutes drive away and has everything you need: a Spar convenience store, as well as two lively pubs, an organic farm shop and an organic cafe/ restaurant. Hambledon Hill is right nearby, a beautiful National Trust site in North Dorset with walking trails in abundance. This ancient hillfort and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers fantastic hikes with Iron Age earthworks and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
The historic market town of Shaftesbury is only a 15-minute drive. The iconic Gold Hill (which you may remember from the famous Hovis advert) offers a picturesque vantage point to view quintessential architecture to a backdrop of stunning countryside views. But it's not just about the views, the town dates back to Saxon times when the settlement was originally built because of the commanding position over the surrounding area. So expect museums, ancient pubs, quirky architecture, and an array of cafes and curio shops.
Located a few miles away, the market town of Sturminster Newton offers a range of attractions. You can visit the Sturminster Newton Mill, a working watermill that dates back to the 17th century, or explore the town's historic buildings and quaint streets. The town also hosts regular farmers' markets and other community events. The picturesque Georgian town of Blandford Forum is just a 15-minute drive away: boasting peaceful riverside walks, stunning architecture, a market place and a brewery. The historic town of Sherborne is also only 28 minutes drive. Find more local tips and tricks in our Guest Guide, which is available upon booking.
The house is ideally located to enjoy all that Somerset has to offer. The charming villages of Bruton and Castle Cary are about a 35-minute drive, boasting boutique shops and artisan cafes. Discover the renowned Hauser & Wirth gallery. The iconic country estate, The Newt, is a similar distance. Their working estate has acres of splendid gardens, woodland, farmland and cider orchards to explore (and taste!).
Find more local tips and tricks in our Guest Guide, which is available upon booking.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of the property, we would recommend bringing a car for your stay. There is ample parking space for multiple vehicles on the driveway. That said, the area is also wonderful for cycling and secure storage is available for bikes.
Other Things to Note:
Dogs are welcome on the condition they are not allowed on the soft furnishings or in the bedrooms and not left in the property unattended. Any dog waste in the garden must also be cleaned up.
Please also be aware the property is surrounded by fields containing livestock and horses. There is a right of way that exists through the garden to the horse field at the end, so you may come across people accessing this.
Interaction with Guests:
We will be available via phone, message or email for the duration of your stay. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions!
