For a dose of heritage, the Wheal Martyn Clay Works ( 3.5 miles) dives into Cornwall’s china clay mining past, with walking paths around old clay pits and a cafe to recharge. You can also enjoy a peaceful walk to Menacuddle Well (5 miles), tucked away in woodland – it’s a historic holy well with a calming atmosphere.

Pull up in the private parking area (there’s room for two cars) and step inside this elegant home. Inside, you’ll be welcomed by an exceptionally chic open-plan kitchen/dining area with bi-fold doors that open out into the garden. Make your way to one of the cottage’s two bohemian-chic lounges – a great feature for multigenerational groups who want to give the kids their own space, one of which has a wood burner set in a stylish stone fireplace. When it’s time to eat, head to the kitchen area and whip up some dinner to share at the farmhouse-style dining table beneath the raftered wooden ceiling. A skylight floods the entire space with natural daylight. At the end of the day, there are four king-size bedrooms to choose from. Downstairs, you’ll find one king-size with a handy shower room, while upstairs there are three more – one with an en-suite shower room.
