Elizabethan Manor House Set In Beautiful Countryside | Gors-Y-Gedol
Cors-Y-Gedol Hall is an Elizabethan manor house set in beautiful countryside in Eryri (Snowdonia), North Wales. The architecture of this amazing property is matched by its rich and fascinating history. If only buildings could talk. The grand fireplace would reminisce how it had warmed the toes of the native princes of Wales. The oak panelled walls in the King's Bedroom would giggle of the soft snoring of Charles II. The library would whisper of the clandestine plans of the revolutionary Owain Glyndwr and the secret staircases leading down to the servants quarters would blush with stories of flirtatious encounters.
A mile long oak lined driveway leads us up from the coast road up to the hall. A magnificent granite gateway heralds our arrival. The hall opens up in front of us as we sweep along the circular driveway. That enriching crunch of gravel as we step out of the car.
A heavy oak door opens onto a small entrance hall and then onto the main lounge. A huge fireplace sits on the far wall. An old leather sofa and matching armchairs face the flames. A fascinating collection of antiques and historic artifacts line the oak panelled walls.
The dining room next door is equally grand, a central dining table comfortably seating up to 14 guests. Big tall windows filling the room with a soft light. The adjoining kitchen is smaller and more modern in appearance. Recently renovated this room and the utility next door is very well equipped and has all the modern appliances you'd expect.
A second living room is more Victorian in style. Beautiful moulded plaster roses, corbels and cornices adorn the ceiling and walls. A grand piano sits in a large bay window and a large rug sits atop of the original oak floor. The perfect space for afternoon tea. Later on in the day however, guests might like to adjourn to the library. Another real fire but this time the walls are covered with a myriad of books both young and old. A flat screen TV in the corner is a welcome modern addition perhaps.
A majestic central stairway adorned with intricate wooden carvings lead us to the first floor bedrooms. Seven bedrooms in total, each one individual in their own way but each equally magnificent. Incredibly tall ceilings, big comfortable beds and huge windows overlooking the surrounding lawns and the countryside beyond. The bedroom arrangement is a bit confusing with a maze of doorways and hallways leading in every direction. Guests will have to pass through some bedrooms to get to a second so have a look at the floor plan to make sure it suits your group.
There are four bathrooms upstairs two of which still have their original Victorian bathtubs and all are wonderfully luxurious and well appointed. There are two more WCs on the ground floor.
We’re happy to welcome 4 well-behaved dogs. Please keep them supervised at all times and don’t leave them unattended. To keep the space comfy for everyone, we kindly ask that they stay off the furniture and out of the bedrooms. Feel free to bring their favourite bed, blanket, and anything else to make them feel at home. Cors-Y-Gedol is a Farm Stay. To keep your furry companions safe, we recommend not leaving them unattended in the garden and always keeping a watchful eye on them during their outdoor adventures.
One Travel Cot and Highchair on request (cot-linen not provided).
