The Barley Mow is a welcoming first-floor retreat set within a traditional sandstone farmstead in the heart of the Eden Valley near Kirkoswald. Sleeping up to five guests, the apartment offers two comfortable bedrooms — one double room and a second room with a double and single bunk bed above — along with a modern bathroom. The bright, open living area provides a relaxed space to unwind, with countryside views from the windows adding to the sense of calm. A fully equipped kitchen makes self-catering easy, whether you’re preparing a hearty breakfast before a day out or a simple supper after exploring. Outside, guests can enjoy the shared garden for morning coffee or evening drinks, and your dog is very welcome, with access to a secure dog run for added peace of mind. Free parking and fast Wi-Fi ensure a comfortable and practical stay.
The surrounding area is a quiet gem of Cumbria, offering rolling farmland, sandstone villages and big skies. A short drive brings you to the charming village square of Kirkoswald, home to welcoming country pubs, scenic river walks and the impressive ruins of Kirkoswald Castle overlooking the River Eden. Walking and cycling routes crisscross the valley, with gentle riverside paths as well as more adventurous routes leading into the open fells.
History lovers will enjoy visiting the dramatic Neolithic stone circle at Long Meg and Her Daughters, one of the most significant prehistoric sites in the north of England, or exploring the striking sandstone chambers of Lacy’s Caves carved into the riverbank.
