You may also choose to visit Westport House (4.5 miles), offering an adventure park for the children, a lovely 400-acre estate and plenty of eateries. Alternatively, head for a scenic round of golf (5 miles).

Everything is on one floor in this beautifully presented family home, which is tastefully decorated and contains stylish furniture and fittings. You’ll have an open-plan living area for relaxing with fellow guests, either cooking, feasting together or watching the satellite TV. The large kitchen has a breakfast bar so you can perch with a glass of wine and chat to the designated chefs. A second lounge with dual-aspect windows ensures there’s plenty of room for your group to spread out; both lounge areas have open fires for keeping cosy as you read or doze. The four bedrooms – two king-size, a double and a twin – are all peaceful and welcoming with sturdy wooden beds. The king-size bedrooms and the double all have en-suite shower rooms, and there’s a separate shower room for the dwellers of the twin room to use.
