Dear Martin, thank you for taking the time and effort to write this review. We sincerely regret that your stay did not meet your expectations. The neighbourhood, Belnem, is a popular combined tourism/residential area. It is more populated than, for example, the neighbourhood of Sabadeco, where the lots are much bigger than in Belnem and another difference is that no restaurants or public beach is present at walking distance in Sabadeco, contrary to what you can enjoy in Belnem. Though not as extremely quiet as Sabadeco, Belnem is known to be a relatively quiet neighbourhood and so far our previous and multiply returning guests have enjoyed their stay at Caraibas. As nearly everywhere in Bonaire, households in Belnem tend to keep one or often several dogs. We do not, but there are indeed many neighbours with dogs. In the first weekend of your stay, there appeared to be some kind of party - which is quite rare for our neighbourhood - with music and some fireworks, which most likely caused unrest amongst the 'interplaying' dogs, not only during that weekend but also for the days after that. We ourselves were not happy with that situation either, and even more since you experienced annoyance. As explained to one of your fellow travel companions during a brief encounter regarding the usage of the coffee machine, we cannot control our neighbourhood's dogs. While taking the issue seriously, we proposed to discuss your others complaints as well as this one in person with all four of you. You replied by WhatsApp that such was not necessary. We respect that, as well as one of your travel companions' preference for maximum privacy which also caused us to keep the interactions other than WhatsApp messaging as limited as possible. The police is able to enforce in situations with aggressive, biting dogs; however, not with barking dogs. Especially due to the seriousness of the complaint, we were willing to discuss in person how to deal with your and your fellow travel companions' complaints. In order to be clear beforehand that we were open to discuss all kinds of options and possibilities with you, when writing the invitation on WhatsApp we just mentioned in between brackets, that you should never feel obliged to stay and that we are even willing to refund the remaining nights (thereby ignoring the non-refundable character of your booking). Again, you declined the personal chat we proposed and we respect that. From our side, we do not agree that the problems were ignored or that the only and immediate response was a check-out. We believe that communication in person could have helped significantly. We sincerely regret that the communication regarding the subject matter remained limited to WhatsApp messages and very short conversations with individual travel companions of your group, during an explanation of the usage of the coffee machine. Lastly, if we knew you did not like the light at the front door, we could definitely have solved that for your in a simple way by just putting the exterior light at the front door off for you by changing the automatic switch on/off settings. We were not aware of this complaint.
