Acerca de su propietario/a
Propietario/a: SOS Stays
We're Sos Stays — Sós is the Irish word for a break, which is exactly what we try to give people. We manage a small number of properties across Louth, Meath and Newry, and Rathescar Grove was the first house we took on, which makes it a bit of a favourite.
We're not a big hotel chain and we're not trying to be. What we care about is guests actually getting looked after — someone who replies quickly, a place that's properly clean and stocked before you arrive, and honest information rather than a listing full of vague adjectives. If something's wrong with your stay, we'd genuinely rather hear about it and fix it than have you leave quietly disappointed.
Hosting, for us, is less about being present in the room and more about making sure everything's sorted before you get there — self-check-in, a stocked fridge, a clear message with everything you need. We like this part of Ireland, we think Rathescar Grove is a genuinely good base for exploring it, and we want your stay here to feel like an actual break, not just a place to sleep between plans.
Por qué escogió este alojamiento
The Boyne Valley doesn't shout about itself, and that's exactly why we like it. You've got Newgrange and Monasterboice within easy reach — genuinely ancient, older than the pyramids, and nowhere near as crowded as you'd expect for something that significant. Then there's the landscape right around Rathescar Grove itself: proper working farmland, cattle in the fields, and the Cooley and Mourne mountains sitting on the horizon from the balcony rooms.
It's also just well placed. Right off the M1, close enough to Drogheda for a good dinner or a coffee, close enough to Dundalk and the Cooley Peninsula for a day out, and within striking distance of Carlingford Lough if you want a proper afternoon by the water. Families are near Funtasia and Emerald Park; if you're here for a wedding, several of the area's best venues — Darver Castle, Segrave Barns, Ballymagarvey Village — are all a comfortable drive away.
Mostly, though, we chose this area because it does what a good break should: gives you somewhere quiet to land, without being in the middle of nowhere. You're never more than half an hour from something worth seeing, and never more than a few steps from doing absolutely nothing at all.
Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
What sets this room apart is the balcony — most guest houses in this area simply don't have one. Step out first thing and you're looking straight over working farmland, cattle grazing in the next field, and the Cooley and Mourne mountains on the horizon. Inside, a proper king-size bed and a private ensuite make it a genuinely comfortable base, not just a view with a room attached — you could happily spend a full morning in here and not feel like you're missing anything.
Location does real work here too. We're right off Junction 12 of the M1 in Dunleer, Co. Louth — close enough to Drogheda for dinner out, close enough to Newgrange and Monasterboice to make a morning of Ireland's ancient history, and well placed for both Dublin and Belfast airports without any of the hassle of staying in a city centre. Families get Funtasia and Emerald Park within easy reach for a full day out; wedding guests get Darver Castle, Segrave Barns and Ballymagarvey Village all within a comfortable drive, which matters more than people expect when you're coordinating a group across a wedding weekend.
We keep things simple and properly looked after: self-check-in so you're never waiting around for someone to let you in, a room stocked with the basics so your first morning doesn't depend on finding a shop, and quick responses if anything comes up during your stay. No party atmosphere, no shared corridors full of strangers, no forced small talk over a communal breakfast if you'd rather not — just a quiet, well-run room with one of the best views in the area, at a price that doesn't pretend to be something it's not.
