Maui Honua Kai

We had a wonderful vacation in Maui and this property was perfect for our needs. The condo was very well appointed and clean. The views were amazing! In particular, we loved this unit because the large, wrap-around balcony always offered both sunny areas and shady areas. I would book this place again in a heartbeat!!

Great stay

We enjoyed our stay very much!! The condo was great but we had issues with the furniture on the lanai. Sitting outside was a daily occurrence, morning and nights, however the furniture is old and quiet beat up and the rattan was broken on the arms and we did get scratched frequently. Also the fans need to be dusted, we could see how thick the dust was when they weren't on. Besides that, it was all good and we would stay again...mahalo

Beautiful views.. but needs some TLC

Maui Resort Rentals we’re great to deal with. The unit itself has some issues though. Stains on drapes, clogged sinks in master bath, damaged furniture and the microwave had a wiring issue and caught fire. We got a replacement 2 days later which was nice. The view is amazing!

Incredible!

From the moment we arrived at the Konea building we were impressed. The grounds are beautiful and pristine. We didn't think it could get any better, but it did the moment we walked into the unit. Everything in this unit felt luxurious from the beautiful furnishings to the most amazing lanai. We were guests from 2/13/2016-2/20/2016 and enjoyed every moment of this beautiful property. Our teenage kids were comfortable in the second bedroom that we had made into two twin beds and we were impressed with the comfort of our Queen suite as well. The kitchen had everything that we needed to eat or prepare meals and I also took advantage of having the washer and dryer right there in our room as well. The room had many added features as well such as boogie boards, chairs, umbrella and nice large towels for use at the beach. I especially liked the location of this unit because it was at the end of the hall rather than directly by the elevators so there was truly no hallway noise. We greatly appreciated the staff that checked us into this unit and for their continued service to us throughout our trip. If we needed additional coffee for the coffee maker or more shampoo or conditioner they would bring it right to us. They even brought us an additional boogie board for use during our stay. Very friendly and attentive staff. The highlight of our entire trip was the beautiful wrap around lanai that we enjoyed every morning and every night. The view is like nothing that can be described and is something we talk about missing often. The whales could be seen right from the comfort of our own unit and the sunsets were breathtaking. We will be returning to this unit in the future without a doubt. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Another great stay at the Honua Kai

This was our third time staying at the Honua Kai. The “13” units are awesome due to the wrap around patios. Lots of space, clean, awesome views. We just love this place. You’ve got sunshine all the way to sunset though the sunset itself is technically blocked by the other side of the building. That said, location is everything at Honua Kai and we were happy to be inside the “U” which blocks the wind and gives a great view. The HK is different in that it’s not a hotel so any service you have to contact the booking agency, which never ended up being a problem for us - they were super responsive. We just can’t find a better place to stay on this island. Loved it - the kids did too - it’s got it all (pools, jacuzzis, water slide, Duke’s on-site)….if I were to pick I would say parking was a little tough but I got to take a few nice strolls in the evening. I’ll take that any day.

9 days in paradise

Overall great family vacation! Property is lovely and the grounds are beautiful. The views off of the lanai are great however, I didn’t realize from the listing photo that the property is recessed giving it the ocean view but set back to view the buildings to the left and right in close proximity. You still get a great view but are quite close to your neighbors lanais. Fortunately it’s a family oriented place so no disturbances for the 9 days that we vacationed. The unit it’s self could use a better deep clean. The floors are filthy and if you walk around after showering your feet are black with dirt. I think a fresh coat of paint could go a long way and investments in better mattresses are needed- they are BEYOND firm and quite uncomfortable. In addition, the property could use some more beach toys, floats for kids and the umbrellas are in poor shape ( broken ) usable but beaten down. Also broken was the cooler- for the price those extras should be a no brainer. Beach chairs are in good shape. Despite the criticism -which hopefully will be addressed- it was a lovely stay and we would stay here again

Clean, Quiet with Breathtaking Views

We’re a small family of four, and this was our second time staying at Honua Kai. Previously, we rented from the resort and stayed in the Hokulani building in a 2 bed/2 bath unit with an ocean view. It was nice, no complaints, we had a good experience. This time we rented through VRBO/Maui Resort Rentals and stayed in the Konea building, specifically in unit 813 — and this place, whoa, it was amazing! We had a great stay. I’ll share some thoughts here in the interest of helping others trying to plan their visits. First off, this unit, it’s *all* about the ocean view. It’s one of only a few units that has a wraparound lanai, so you really have a unique expansive view looking out over the resort grounds and the ocean. We sat out on the lanai every morning with our coffee, and nearly every night too, just watching the beautiful world in front of us. The interior of the unit was well maintained and clean, which was important to us since this was our first trip post-Covid. It is a rental after all, so there were reasonable signs of wear here/there, but nothing gross or unkept. The important thing is that we had everything we needed. The kitchen had most of the stuff we needed to make basic meals, the bedrooms were comfortable and the bathrooms very clean. The unit also had a small wash/dryer, plus a closet full of beach gear, which was great to use. The unit was very quiet, we had no problems with noise. The Konea-side of the resort just felt a little more chill during our stay. Still lots of families and kids out and about, but nothing obnoxious. The resort grounds are nice, and there are multiple pools. If you have new or non-swimmers (like us), most of the pools are pretty shallow (3-4 ft), so that takes away some of the stress. But finding a place to plant your stuff and hang is near impossible, you’re almost forced to pay fairly steep cabana or casabella rental rates to just sit comfortably near the pool. We had a rental car and found parking to be a minor annoyance. Previously, Honua Kai had a valet service, but that was suspended presumably as a Covid safety measure. And the underground garage parking is limited, so a few times we had to circle the resort hunting for parking. All this being said, Honua Kai remains our favorite Maui resort, and this unit was beautiful, we would absolutely rent it again and recommend it to others.

Anniversary Trip

We visited for a week in October with another couple who was also celebrating their 10 year anniversary. It’s a great unit to share with another couple. The unit was just as described, and as rentals go, it was in really good shape! The view could not be beat and we enjoyed having drinks and dinner on the lanai on a couple of nights. There were a lot of kids at the resort - we left ours at home with grandparents so I would have preferred less kids LOL but that’s no reflection of the resort. Would definitely recommend.

Relaxing vacation

We really enjoyed the property. It was a clean and spacious place. Lots of room to spread out. The patio was the perfect spot to eat and relax in the morning and evening. The view was wonderful also! It was great to have a place to have breakfast every morning. The grocery store was close by as well as the little general store in the lobby was perfect for last minute pick up of items. We even stopped at a road-side stand and picked up fresh friut. Duke's was a great place to eat on the beach too. We really enjoyed our whole trip and loved where we stayed.

little or no service!

staff non-existent throughout! rooms not clean, especially bathroom, mold inside clothes washer lid seal! A horrible security system that periodically blared forth an emergency exit message only to cancel it later. Garage access did not work took 2 days to issue new id bands, furniture outdated and needs to be replaced, bathrooms not cleaned properly, NO room staff at all for restocking paper products, etc.lobby , hallways dull, drab and in need of a general renovation . Very disappointed in this property for the amount charged. The only encounter with , in general, a very scarce and unfriendly staff was the bellman at checkin. bath towels were well worn and frayed. all in all, I do not recommend this property

Firstly, we apologize for the issue with your ID bands and garage access. The resort tried to make the transition to new ID bands as seamless as possible for everyone and we tried to communicate the transition as well as we could, but we do apologize for the inconvenience. We are also sorry to hear that you found the cleanliness of the units not up to your standards. We assure you that this is of utmost importance to us. This is a very rare comment for us to receive, so the owner is going to be personally inspecting our cleaning processes to make sure that our high standards are being upheld. In addition, we are having a meeting with the final inspector who signed off on your room. We also apologize for the security system that went off a few times during your stay due to Honua Kai working on their sprinkler system. We can understand how this could be very frustrating. Lastly, we are very sorry that you found the service to be lacking. While it is not standard in the vacation rental industry for a manager to restock paper products etc., we are generally more than willing to run over items when a guest requests them. We are not sure what happened in your case, but there doesn’t appear to be any indication in your reservation that you ever requested them. We will be sure to look into this. Beautiful apartment

Picturesque apartment with amazing open balcony and view. Definitely good for families. In the Northwest wish there was more to eat, but that had nothing to do with the apartment. Star Noodle was pretty decent. The apartment was very clean and the beach was a stones throw away. The pools were warm and many people spent the entire day there. Was easy to go surfing and snorkeling. Would recommend that the owners stock a few more basic neccesities such as sugar, and a few other minor things. All in all, don't think you can do much better in Maui to stay. Parking was free and there was a valet that brought us the car everytime and we left small tip.

Beautiful condo with great view!

The condo is well maintained and has beautiful ocean views. The only detail worth noting is that the condo is not stocked with any extras such as TP, paper towels and no spices (other than S&P). The pots and pans were lacking as well. I am not sure if this would prevent the group from staying again but it was a topic of conversation each time we cooked a meal.

To clarify, all of our managed condos come with a starter pack of hand soap, dish soap, laundry pods, trash bags, dishwasher pods, paper towels, toilet paper, bath amenities, salt, pepper, coffee, and olive oil. We apologize if the pots and pans were lacking. In the future, do not hesitate to reach out as we have a full warehouse of kitchen items that we would be happy to bring over upon request. In the meantime, we will be sure to run some extra pots and pans up to the Konea 813 kitchen to make sure that it is well stocked. We hope to see you again. Awesome view! Perfect vacation condo!

We absolutely loved that condo. Everything was so clean. It was so enjoyable to sit on the nice patio and watch the whales or just enjoy the beautiful view. We would go back there for sure and stay in that same unit.

The view is stunning, the pictures do not lie. Close to the beach, the pools, shopping, dining, everything! The accommodations were clean, service was friendly and checking in and out was so easy. Loved it all!
