We are glad to hear that you enjoyed staying at our historic 95-year-old recently renovated private home. Noted also is your mention that the home can “use some updating.” Let me take this opportunity to address your comment. As stated in our listing “This home is perfect for guests who are seeking an authentic historic home experience. In the home's renovation we have preserved as many original features as possible. These historic features (such as original woodwork, windows, sinks and toilets, tile, hardware, original kitchen countertop etc.) show their age in the form of patina. Our design approach is to be sensitive to the homes past and embrace its authentic historic features. We do not rip everything out and create a modern-day home inside. Yet we have many modern amenities in the home, such as Central Air Conditioning, WIFI and Roku TV” Architect Jim Smith and I are design professionals dedicated to restoring historic homes, offered to guests who also love historic homes and their features (not to mention, at a very reasonable price!)! We encourage all prospective guests to read our entire listing and view our photographs to become acquainted with the quality of accommodations, as well as the historic experience we offer. We DO NOT plan any “updates” to this home that would eradicate the home’s past, and thus destroy the warmth and character that we have worked so lovingly to restore. Staying here offers guests the experience of a Prairie Style House, inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's visionary movement of creating homes in harmony with the natural environment that lifts the human spirit. This home is part of the Maple Avenue Historic District filing with National Register of Historic Places. We are dedicated to restoring historic Hannibal and its streetscape.
