I recently had an experience with the Buffalo Soldier property on Vrbo, and while there were some challenges, there were positive aspects as well. The most commendable aspect was the property owner's promptness in refunding our payment, even though we didn't request a full refund or intend to cancel our reservation. Our primary concern was the cleanliness of the property during our stay, and unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. There were several issues we encountered, including dead bugs scattered around the house and on the couch, unaddressed food and dead bugs behind the indoor trash can, and the discovery of hair and hair clips on the bed sheets. Additionally, we noticed the fridge, stove, and side of the microwave were dirty.
We contacted the owner immediately upon discovering these things and he answered promptly. The owner said he will call us back so we can return when the house is cleaned. Our intent was not to cancel our reservation, but rather to request some form of compensation for the inconvenience we experienced due to the property's condition. However, to our surprise, the owner chose to cancel our reservation while we were out shopping, leaving us in a challenging situation as most other VRBOs and hotels in the area were fully booked. Our family of seven had gathered for a special occasion, my son's graduation from Army Basic training, and this unexpected turn of events left us scrambling for hours to find alternative accommodation.
